Over the past six decades, Ginnie and Bob raised four children and shared 10 grandchildren

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ginnie Newhart, the wife of legendary comedian Bob Newhart, died at 82 on April 23 after a long illness. Bob took to Twitter and Facebook to issue a public statement about the news that read, "We lost our beloved Ginnie Quinn Newhart - Wife, Mother and Grandmother on April 23rd, 2023 after a long battle with illness. She was our rock and we miss her terribly."

Though there is no information regarding her cause of death, it was reported that she was diagnosed with liver cancer years ago, states Guideposts. Following the news of the death, Bob’s 'Newhart' co-star Julia Duffy paid tribute to Ginnie and wrote, "Funny, candid, huge heart. Gave me the best advice in everything from decorating to childbirth and children and yes, husbands. I loved her. RIP Ginnie Newhart." The death comes three months after the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 12, 2023.

Ginnie and Bob met on a blind date in 1962

Bob and Ginnie, who was born Virginia Quinn, met on a blind date in 1962 set up by comedian Buddy Hackett. One year later, they were married. Talking about his long marriage to Ginnie, who was credited with providing the idea for the highly acclaimed series finale of 'Newhart', which ran from 1982 to 1990, Bob told in 2019, "I think laughter is vital. It’s as vital as breathing. It gets you through difficult areas. Laughter is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. It’s like music, of a kind," he told The Day that year," as per The Day.

Who are Bob Newhart's children?

Over the past six decades, Ginnie and Bob have raised their four children, Robert, Timothy, Jennifer, and Courtney, in Los Angeles and also share 10 grandchildren. Talking about his family, Bob told Guideposts in past, "I have four kids and 10 grandchildren. I’ve always said: I don’t care how successful you’ve been in this business, if you haven’t had a good family life, what have you really achieved? Not an awful lot. You can be the richest man in the world and look back at your marriages that were disasters and what have you really accomplished? That’s the way I look at life.”

Robert is Ginnie and Bob's oldest child, who was born on November 4, 1963, as per Hollywood Life. He avoids being in public and hence, there are not many details. But the outlet states, he appeared in a 1993 film, 'Heart and Souls'. Timothy is second in line, he was born in 1969. He worked as a production assistant on his father’s show 'Newhart' as well as on Ferris Bueller’s 'Day Off.' He also worked as an associate on the TV series 'Get a Life' from 1991 to 1992.

After Timothy, Jennifer was born in 1970. But like Robert, she has also stayed away from the public eye. While Courtney is the youngest child and the couple's second daughter, who was born in 1977. She appeared on 'Newhart' in 1986 and also worked as a production assistant on 'George & Leo' in 1997.
