Where is Jamal Roberts now? ‘American Idol’ Season 23 winner shares major life update
Jamal Roberts had captivated the nation a year ago and taken home the crown of 'American Idol' Season 23 winner. Now the singer is back on the reality show's companion series to share some updates about his life. Roberts appeared as a guest on the podcast episode titled 'Songs of Faith Night Breakdown' of the official American Idol podcast, hosted by actress Danielle Fishel. Podcast episodes are released every Wednesday after the show's airing. In the podcast, the former PE teacher talked about his recent Grammy nomination and a new exciting purchase. The singer revealed he has bought his dream house and will soon move in. "It’s on three acres of land, a four-bedroom, two-bath [house]. I’d seen it online, and I used to drive by it all the time, thinking nothing of it. It’s a beautiful home, just never thought I’d be in it," he shared.
The big purchase, though, doesn't mean Roberts is making irresponsible financial decisions. He will soon convert his last home to an Airbnb. To increase Airbnb's appeal, the father-of-three is considering leaving all his precious memories there. The precious memories in question may also include some Idol keepsakes. The singer's life changed from the moment he went on the stage to sing 'Mary Jane' and earned a Ticket to Hollywood. Roberts won over the runner-up, John Foster, with a whopping 26 million votes. His genuine personality, along with strong vocals, made him an instant fan favorite amongst Idol viewers.
It would be safe to say that Roberts is flying high after his record-breaking win. His single 'Heal' hit number 1 on Billboard charts. Furthermore, he earned a Grammy nomination for his collaboration with Jonathan McReynolds on 'Still (Live)' in the Best Gospel Performance/Song category. He did not win the award, but that has not deterred him in the least. This has given the singer his next goal: to get his hands on the precious gramophone. ''I want to go higher, want to get better, want to be in the spotlight as the American Idol winner. I’m holding myself up to that standard,'' he shared on the podcast.
However, Roberts did not leave the podcast without some advice for the Season 24 hopefuls. "Drink plenty of water. Stay hydrated. Any downtime you have, let it be downtime. Rest your mind, rest your vocals, find your peace. Third, listen to the judges. Listen to the critiques, listen to what they’re saying. Take what they’re saying and use it in your next performance," he said. He advised the group not to let judges "change who you are, but just utilize what they say." He also analyzed the performance and critiques delivered by the audience and judges in American Idol's 'Songs of Faith' episode, along with Fishel. Roberts recently released a new single called 'Head Up,' and kicked off Season 3 of Mississippi's Sound Amphitheater with a concert, per WLOX.
