When is 'Wonderwell' releasing?

Despite securing a release date, 'Wonderwell' will only manage to have a limited theatrical run. This movie will be released on June 23, 2023, and is the directorial debut of Vlad Marsavin. The film will also have a digital release after its theatrical run. The release date was finalized only after Vertical managed to acquire the North America and United Kingdom/Ireland rights to the project.

Talking about delayed release, Marsavin said, "The journey we have taken as filmmakers with this movie, has been as perilous as that of the movie itself." As per Deadline, Marsavin also praised Fisher for the professionalism and energy she brought to the sets. He said, "Carrie was full of energy during filming and even celebrated her 60th birthday with us in Italy where we shot the movie. After a night shoot, which went on until 2am, she invited the whole team to celebrate with her and the party ended up being shut down by the police because it was deemed a little too loud." Turns out her death was extremely emotional for the whole team of 'Wonderwell'.

The reason behind delays

As per Marsavin, the film was delayed mainly due to the challenges in visual effects, which not only increased the budget of the film but also accounted for multiple delays. The director also revealed that the movie was also affected by the Covid pandemic. He explained, "From filming to screen it has taken us seven years. The visual effects on a movie of this magnitude takes time, but we were challenged with Covid lockdowns and of course the passing of our wonderful Carrie Fisher. Now is the perfect time to share her magical on-screen moments as Hazel."

What is 'Wonderwell' all about?

'Wonderwell' has been deemed as a coming-of-age story that follows Violet (Milward) living with her American parents and older sister Savannah (Tiger Free) in Italy. When Savannah is chosen to be the face of Yana's (Ora) designer label, the family travels to a medieval village for a photoshoot. Feeling bored and neglected Violet explores the town and ends up meeting Hazel (Fisher), who gives her a fair warning about Yana's stepson Daniele (Croft). Under the guidance of Hazel, Violet manages to discover the possibilities of her future.
