Netflix finally drops a trailer for 'Thrash' as Phoebe Dynevor battles sharks and we have a release date
As if a devastating coastal storm wasn't enough, 'Bridgerton' star Phoebe Dynevor will now be battling it out against an onslaught of lethal sharks.
The upcoming survival thriller cum disaster flick 'Thrash' is finally ready to see the light of day, following a prolonged gestation period during which it changed titles and production houses. Ultimately, 'Thrash' will land on Netflix on April 10. The streaming platform giant recently released a full-length trailer for 'Thrash', and there's a lot to unpack!
The upcoming film is set against the backdrop of a coastal town that is hit by a Category 5 storm. Apart from ravaging the town's infrastructure, flattening houses, and hurling debris across the landscape, the storm brings an infestation of hungry sharks that sail through the troubled waters to terrorize the town's inhabitants.
'Thrash' is directed by Norwegian genre filmmaker Tommy Wirkola, and also stars Djimon Hounsou and Whitney Peak in addition to Dynevor. The trailer begins with Hounsou ominously declaring, "Sharks on the loose in the Category 5 storm. Let’s move!" To make matters worse for Dynevor, her character is nine months pregnant while this disaster strikes her town. Referring to her yet unborn baby, she asserts, "I am not going to have him die before he takes his first breath."
In a recent interview with Collider, the actress shared her exclusive insights about the upcoming movie when she said, "I’m so excited about this movie, it’s big. It’s sharks. It’s hurricanes. It’s all of those things, and I’m a nine-months pregnant lady who has to go through a lot in those 24 hours."
The upcoming disaster thriller boasts an ensemble cast in addition to the aforementioned actors, including Costa D’Angelo, Amy Mathews, Elijah Ungvary, Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen, Dante Ubaldi, Jon Prasida, Gemma Dart, Sami Afuni, Sian Luxford, and Akosia Sabet.
Adam McKay has served as the film's producer, alongside Kevin Messick and Wirkola. The official Netflix synopsis reads, "First comes the flood, then comes the frenzy. Amidst a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane, a coastal town battles nature's wrath and an onslaught of sharks brought in by the storm surge. Braving torrential rain, debris, and darkness, they unite to survive the deadly predators and make it through the storm without being eaten."
The film was first announced in 2024 and was in development at Sony Pictures under the working title 'Beneath the Storm'. A year later, the title was changed to 'Shiver' before reverting to an untitled status once again. It was further reported earlier this year that the film had been pulled from Sony's slate of upcoming productions and was subsequently acquired by Netflix.
