Netflix finally drops trailer for 'Roommates' and Adam Sandler's daughter leads the dorm war comedy
Adam Sandler's daughter, Sadie Sandler, is no stranger to the limelight. She appeared alongside her father, younger sister Sunny, and mother Jackie in the comedy flick 'You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah' back in 2023. Taking the next step in her career, Sandler will now be seen as a naive college freshman in the upcoming Netflix comedy movie 'Roommates.'
The streaming platform giant recently dropped a full trailer for the movie, which also stars Chloe East. It has also been revealed that Adam Sandler is one of the producers of 'Roommates', which will be available for streaming on Netflix beginning April 17.
Sandler portrays Devon, who finds her roommate in Celeste, East's character. The two girls are quite apart from each other, in the sense that Devon is a naive freshman who still looks upon her college years with wonder. She faces numerous challenges in aligning with her environment and in fitting in with her peers. Celeste, on the other hand, is quite an extrovert and teeming with confidence. Although the two start as friends, their relationship soon takes a turn, and their shared college experience escalates into a passive-aggressive 'dorm war.'
"The hardest problem first-year students face isn't moving away from home or balancing our work and social lives. It's trying to coexist with your roommates," says Sandler's Devon as the trailer kicks off with an image of her leaving the comforts of home behind to put up at her college dorm. The official synopsis reads, "When college freshman Devon asks cool, confident Celeste to be her roommate, a blossoming friendship quickly spirals into a war of passive aggression."
'Roommates' is directed by Chandler Levack, who had previously helmed 'Mile End Kicks'. The screenplay is written by former 'Saturday Night Live' scribes Ceara Jane O’Sullivan and Jimmy Fowlie. In addition to Sandler and East, the upcoming comedy movie boasts an ensemble cast that includes Martin Herlihy, Josh Segarra, Carol Kane, Janeane Garofalo, Billy Bryk, Sarah Sherman, Aidan Langford, Bella Murphy, Jaya Harper, Storm Reid, Bailee Madison, Nick Kroll, and Natasha Lyonne. The movie is executive produced by Kevin Grady, Judit Maull, and Jackie Shenoo.
In an interesting case of life imitating art, the 19-year-old Sandler was a freshman at New York University during the time of filming 'Roommates'. Speaking in an interview with Teen Vogue, she had reflected on her approach to portraying the experience of college when she commented, "In college, everyone’s trying to figure themselves out. If you don’t even know who you are yet, how can you have a stable relationship?” Adam Sandler, on the other hand, had previously expressed his relief at the prospect of working with his daughters.
Speaking in an interview with E! News during the premiere of 'Happy Gilmore 2', he commented, "It must be like when you're the parents of a baseball player, and you're at the game, and they get a hit. You just go, 'Thank god.' It's just so much relief."
