‘One Piece’ fans huddle up as Netflix announces surprise theatrical release for Season 2
'One Piece' is setting sail for an epic adventure to the Grand Line in Season 2, and fans will be able to enjoy the first two episodes on the big screen. As the second season of the fantasy adventure series drops on Netflix on March 10, the streamer has announced a special fan screening on the same day in over 200 theaters across the US, Canada, and Japan. Tickets will go on sale in the US and Canada on Thursday, February 26, at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET, with the screenings held at 6 p.m. local time. Fans can find the full list of theaters and showtimes for their area here. In the US, the AMC, Cinemark, Alamo, Regal, and Cineplex theaters are set to host the fan event.
The series stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji - the ragtag crew of Straw Hat Pirates. On February 10, showrunner Joe Tracz teased the plot of the upcoming season and told Tudum, “At the end of the first season, our characters made this pledge around a barrel to achieve their dreams. We’re going to see how those dreams are put to the test. Every place they stop in the Grand Line is going to test one of the Straw Hats in a unique way. And they’re going to learn that if they’re going to fulfill their dreams, they have to have each other’s backs.”
The official synopsis states that Season 2 of 'One Piece' will unleash “fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet” as the Straw Hats crew visits the legendary Grand Line in search of the world’s greatest treasure, One Piece. On their voyage, they will discover exciting new locations, including Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, the island of Whisky Peak, the prehistoric island of Little Garden, and Drum Island. The pirates will also face off against new foes called the Baroque Works agents - Miss All Sunday (Lera Abova), Miss Valentine (Jazzara Jaslyn), Miss Wednesday (Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran), Miss Goldenweek (Sophia Anne Caruso), Mr. 3 (David Dastmalchian), Mr. 5 (Camrus Johnson), and Mr. 9 (Daniel Lasker). The trailer teases intense battles, major hurdles, new villains, and more, adding suspense and thrill to the upcoming installment.
Matt Owens and Steven Maeda developed 'One Piece' as a live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s 1997 manga series. Oda also serves as creative consultant for the Netflix title. When the pirate saga debuted on August 31, 2023, it quickly became the most-watched Netflix series (among individual series seasons) during the second half of that year. So put on your straw hats and let the adventure begin!
