Is ‘Adolescence’ Season 2 happening? Stephen Graham's cryptic Golden Globes remarks leave fans hopeful
It appears the story of ‘Adolescence’ may not be finished just yet, despite the Netflix phenomenon originally being billed as a limited series. Fresh hints from co-creator and star Stephen Graham suggest that the door remains open for a future continuation, even if it takes time for that idea to take shape fully. Speaking backstage at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, Graham addressed growing speculation about a possible return for the popular drama. The comments came moments after he accepted the award for Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or TV Movie.

When asked directly about the likelihood of a second season, Graham offered a cryptic but hopeful response. “I cannot answer that question because it’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned,” Graham said, referring to his co-creator and longtime collaborator Jack Thorne. While ‘Adolescence’ was conceived as a standalone story, Graham’s remarks align with earlier conversations within the show’s creative circle. Back in April, Deadline reported that a follow-up was being quietly discussed behind the scenes.
At the time, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner confirmed they were in talks with director Philip Barantini about what they described as the “next iteration” of the series. Gardner explained that the team was exploring ways to “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive,” while stopping short of offering any concrete details. In ‘Adolescence,’ Graham stars as Eddie Miller, a working-class father whose life is shattered when his 13-year-old son, Jamie, commits a devastating crime. The show’s emotional weight was amplified by the performances of its cast, particularly newcomer Owen Cooper. He portrayed Jamie with unsettling vulnerability.
Awards recognition has followed nearly every step of the series’ journey. Cooper took home a Golden Globe for his supporting role, while Erin Doherty also won in the female supporting category for her performance as therapist Briony Ariston. Together, their wins contributed to a strong showing for ‘Adolescence,’ which earned a total of five Golden Globe nominations, including Best Limited Series. The accolades are only part of the story. Since debuting ahead of the 2025 Emmy Awards eligibility window, ‘Adolescence’ has been a force on the awards circuit. It received 13 Emmy nominations and won eight of them.
Adolescence wins 8 Emmy awards including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

Commercially, the series has had just as much impact. ‘Adolescence’ climbed to become Netflix’s second most-watched English-language series of all time, as per Digital Spy. It amassed more than 146 million views within its first 91 days on the platform. For now, there is no official confirmation that ‘Adolescence’ will return, nor is there a timeline for when a decision might be made. Still, Graham’s comments and the ongoing conversations among its producers make one thing clear: the creative team isn’t ready to completely close the book.
