'When I Was the Most Beautiful' Episode 2 promo hints at past and present trauma for Ye-ji, Hwan stands by her
In Episode 1 of 'When I was Most Beautiful', we saw Seo Hwan (Ji Soo) ask Ye-ji (Lim Soo-hyang) why she is not asking him about his mother. This is after she was invited to stay over for dinner at his place by his father. To this, she tells him that everyone may not live by the standards set by society, considered right or wrong by people. She tells Hwan to not feel bad for living differently as everyone has a story behind why their lives are set a certain way. It seemed as if she was empathizing with Hwan. In keeping with this, the promo of the upcoming episode shows Ye-ji face up to a woman who seemed extremely angry with Ye-ji for working at the college.
This woman throws a loud fit and when Ye-ji tries to take her out and talk with her, ask her why she would come to college and what was she thinking? In return, we see Ye-ji get slapped for having the guts to work at the college. This woman blames her for the situation that their entire family seems to be in, but why she would do so, is something that we can only learn about in the upcoming episodes.
We also see a flash from the past of a young girl waking up to blood splashed on her face and she looks extremely shocked. Is this young girl Ye-ji? If it is, then is she a witness to some crime? We did see how she was scared to sleep in a room with no lights in Episode 1 and had even got Hwan to switch the lights on for her. So does she suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? It definitely seems like it in the promo, but we cannot be sure until we learn the whole truth.
When Ye-ji struggles with all of this, the one who comes to her rescue and protects her from being further hurt is Hwan. He takes her away from the classrooms and takes her to a spot where she can relax and forget about what had just happened. This time around, it is Ye-ji who asks Hwan why he doesn't ask her anything. He responds that he doesn't want her to relive what had just happened and this results in Ye-ji getting teary-eyed.
The day after, she also gifts him flowers and thanks him for protecting her. After seeing Hwan's perplexed look, she tells him that no one else has protected her before and this seems like another reference to her past as a witness. Also, it is not only Hwan, but his brother, Seo Jin, also seems to be interested in helping her and offers her help too.
'When I was Most Beautiful' will air on MBC on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9.30 pm KST. It will be available on Viu outside South Korea.
