Jamie Lee Curtis joins Nicole Kidman in ‘Scarpetta’ and here's where you can stream the thriller crime drama
The likes of 'Cross' and 'Reacher' are set to get some competition in the form of Prime Video's new crime thriller 'Scarpetta'. Starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead roles, the forensic crime drama is based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling Kay Scarpetta book series. The release date comes after the series of first-look images.
Kidman stars as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner tasked with catching a serial killer and proving that her career-defining case from 28 years before is also not her downfall. The official logline reads, "With skilled hands and an unnerving eye, this unrelenting medical examiner is determined to serve as the voice of the victims, unmask a serial killer, and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn't also her undoing. Set against the backdrop of modern forensic investigation, the series delves beyond the crime scene to explore the psychological complexities of both perpetrators and investigators, creating a multi-layered thriller that examines the toll of pursuing justice at all costs."
The series follows a dual narrative, exploring Scarpetta's formative years as a Chief Medical Examiner, her return to her hometown, and her resumption of the role while investigating a bone-chilling murder. The theme sees her fight for justice, while also navigating complex relationships with her sister. Dorothy Farinelli (Jamie Lee Curtis). As her case progresses, secrets that threaten to unravel her career come to light, making the series a gripping watch.
Other members of the cast include Ariana DeBose as Lucy Watson, Scarpetta’s tech-savvy niece and genetic expert. Bobby Cannavale as Detective Pete Marino, a seasoned investigator, Rosy McEwen, and Jake Cannavale.
In related news, Curtis revealed that she had not planned to act in the show. "It was that moment of like, ‘Yes, Nicole Kidman. Yes. I’m going to be in a show with you," she told US Weekly in an interview. "I had no choice," she teased. "I was going to be a producer, and at that moment, it was decided that I was going to act in the show."
Developed and written for television by Liz Sarnoff, 'Scarpetta' is executive produced by Kidman and Per Saari, along with Curtis, writer and showrunner Sarnoff. Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, and Chris McCumber round up the list of EPs. David Gordon Green directed five episodes and also joins the roster of EPs alongside Amy Sayres. This will be Kidman;s first TV project in 2026.
The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television. 'Scarpetta' releases on Prime Video on March 11 with all eight episodes dropping on the same day. For now, it is expected to be a single series order with no official confirmation on Season 2.
'Scarpetta' arrives as 'Cross' Season 2 inches to a close, while 'Reacher' Season 4 starring Alan Ritchson gears up for a mid-to-late 2026 release. Only time will tell if the show can live up to the thrill that Cornwell gave in her gripping novels.
