When did Anna and Michael Cardwell separate? Mama June accuses daughter's ex-husband of physical abuse during custody battle
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Anna Cardwell and Michael Cardwell decided to part ways in 2017, choosing to go their separate paths without publicly disclosing the specific reasons behind their separation.
In the ongoing custody battle, reality TV star Mama June Shannon has accused Anna Cardwell's ex-husband, Michael, of physical abuse towards her late daughter.
According to The US Sun, June, 44, responded to Michael's custody petition for Anna's eldest daughter, Kaitlyn, 11, by making the startling allegations.
According to Mama June, throughout his marriage to Anna, Micheal consistently subjected her and the child to physical abuse. It was argued that placing the child under the care and control of the plaintiff (Micheal) would not be in the child's best interest, given the history of such abuse.
Michael's lawyer, however, firmly refuted the claims, stating, "Michael vehemently denies any form of abuse towards his children, ex-wife, or any past girlfriend. We await June's evidence supporting these allegations."
Presently, Michael holds full custody of his biological daughter, 8-year-old Kylee, whom he shares with Anna. In his initial complaint, he asserted that Kaitlyn would visit when he had custody of Kylee.
However, June countered, alleging that those visits were only occurring because "The child of the marriage did not wish to visit the father if Kaitlyn did not come with her."
Michael also sought custody of Kaitlyn, arguing that the sisters shouldn't be separated after their mother's passing. He emphasized his role in raising Kaitlyn as his own, highlighting that he also covered the expenses for her education.
In her documents, June mentioned that the 11-year-old's father's identity was "unknown," and she emphasized that the child lacked a legal father. While the court granted June temporary custody, a pending hearing would decide whether this arrangement becomes permanent.
Interestingly, June filed for dismissal of Michael's petition, asserting that Kylee tended to be reluctant to visit him unless accompanied by her sister Kaitlyn.
