When and where to watch 'The Housemaid'? Sydney Sweeney thriller heads to premium VoD
Sydney Sweeney's 'The Housemaid' hit premium Video on Demand and premium digital on February 3. The thriller, based on author Freida McFadden's bestseller of the same name, enjoyed a solid box office run, raking in $309.8 million worldwide on a budget of $35 million. Starting from Tuesday, the film will be available for rent on Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google TV, YouTube, and more.
Directed by Paul Feig, 'The Housemaid' follows Millie Calloway (Sweeney), a young woman with a troubled past, who lands a job as the live-in housekeeper for a wealthy family whose household has dark secrets. The impressive outing and the positive reception saw Lionsgate announce a sequel to the film.
Per Rotten Tomatoes, the official logline reads, "THE HOUSEMAID is a wildly entertaining thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, based on the best-selling book. From director Paul Feig, the film plunges audiences into a twisted world where perfection is an illusion, and nothing is as it seems."
Also starring are Millie Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, Nina's husband, Michele Morrone as Enzo Accardi, an Italian groundskeeper, Elizabeth Perkins as Evelyn Winchester, Andrew's mother, and Indiana Elle as Cecelia "Cece" Winchester, Nina and Andrew's daughter, in key roles.
"Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous -- a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters' closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end." Per Deadline, the premium editions also feature deleted footage, a "peek inside" featurette, special snippets from Feig, and the making of the film.
Previously, Sweeney spoke about being involved in the project as one of the producers. "I was a huge fan of the book," the 'Euphoria' star told W in an interview. "The moment I opened the first page, I did not put it down until I finished. I knew there was a script circulating, and I went after it. I came onboard and worked with Lionsgate to package the film. I love being able to be part of building the entire world, not just my actor’s world. It’s like a giant puzzle that I get to put together. And I’m obsessed with Amanda [Seyfried]. She’s my spirit animal. She’s made me feel more comfortable just being myself.
