'What nonsense!' Sam Smith uses new genderless word 'fisherthem', leaves internet flummoxed

LONDON, ENGLAND: Sam Smith has left the internet baffled after using a new word, "fisherthem", instead of fisherman, while speaking on BBC's 'The One Show' following their high-profile performance at the BRIT Awards 2023.

In response to the host's question about whether they enjoyed fishing, the Grammy winner stated, "I do enjoy fishing, yes! Yeah, I'd love to be a fisherthem." The host then asked, "What, like a fly fisherman?" To which Smith replied, "I'd be any type of fisher-them. I think I would like to, one day, I'd just like to end my days fishing. Like sitting on a bank," adding, "I do it on the sea and I do it on lakes. I've never done it alone, someone's almost taught me."

'Ridiculous' 

Netizens were perplexed by this new, unheard term. A Twitter user mocked Smith by saying, "Sam Smith...I would like to end my days as a " Fisher- them" Can't wait for his next song..all those pronouns will be some tongue twisters." Another tweeted, "The next Spiderman film going to be called Spiderthem with him in it?" Another chimed in, "Sam Smith calling Fishermen- Fisher them. so I’m guessing it’s Firethem Policethem Postthem. What a nonsense"

Controversial influencer Oli London also called out Smith. The influencer tweeted, "He really will say anything for attention. Fisherthem is the most ridiculous thing possible. He knows it that’s why he is smiling. Great for his album promotion though."

Piers Morgan steps in 

Piers Morgan took to Twitter to call out the award-winning popstar. He tweeted, "Sam Smith needs to shut up."

Fews days before this, Morgan slammed Smith for hogging attention for wearing an inflatable black jumpsuit with huge shoulder pads, high heels and matching black gloves with pearl earrings on the BRITs red carpet.

Smith has now become the target of trolls. He was heavily criticised for his Grammy Awards performance of his song, 'Unholy', featuring Kim Petras. Many reportedly viewed his performance as "satanic and offensive" and some even complained to the FCC and CBS.
