British rapper and record producer Daniel Dumile, better known by his stage names King Geedorah, Metal Fingers, Viktor Vaughn, Zev Love or MF Doom, passed away on December 31, 2020, at the age of 49. Dumile was known for his intricate rhymes and always wearing his signature mask while performing.

Dumile's death was announced by his wife, Jasmine Dumile, on Instagram, calling him, "The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for."

She continued, "Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be."

Dumile was born in London in 1971 but moved to New York as a child. He was raised by a Trinidadian mother and a Zimbabwean father and had said in an interview that his mother raised him with Islam. He first entered the world of music in 1988 as a teenager as a member of KMD, an East Coast hip-hop trip, with the stage name Zev Love X. The group disbanded in 1993 after Dumile's younger brother and bandmate, DJ Subroc died.

In 1997, he reemerged at open mic events, this time, covering his face with tights. Over time, he began wearing a mask inspired by the Marvel Comics supervillain, Doctor Doom, a character that was featured on the cover of his 1999 debut solo album, 'Operation: Doomsday'. He later adapted the mask to one worn by a character in the film 'Gladiator'.

Dumile found success in the early 1990s with 'Take Me To Your Leader' under the moniker King Geedorah. His 2004 album, 'Madvillainy' is considered to be his masterpiece album. The album was made with producer Madlib and features soulful and charismatic lyrics, brilliant sampling, and is regarded as one of the great albums of the 2000s decade.

His other albums included 'Vaudeville Villain' in 2003 as Viktor Vaughn, 'Venomous Villain' in 2004 as Viktor Vaughn, 'Mm.. Food' in 2004, 'The Mouse and the Mask' in 2005 with Danger Mouse as Dangerdoom, 'Born Like This' in 2009 as Doom, 'Key to the Kuffs' in 2012 with Jneiro Jarel as JJ Doom, and 'NehruvianDOOM' in 2014 with Bishop Nehru as NehruvianDOOM.
