Who is MF Doom?
Dumile was born in London in 1971 but moved to New York as a child. He was raised by a Trinidadian mother and a Zimbabwean father and had said in an interview that his mother raised him with Islam. He first entered the world of music in 1988 as a teenager as a member of KMD, an East Coast hip-hop trip, with the stage name Zev Love X. The group disbanded in 1993 after Dumile's younger brother and bandmate, DJ Subroc died.
In 1997, he reemerged at open mic events, this time, covering his face with tights. Over time, he began wearing a mask inspired by the Marvel Comics supervillain, Doctor Doom, a character that was featured on the cover of his 1999 debut solo album, 'Operation: Doomsday'. He later adapted the mask to one worn by a character in the film 'Gladiator'.
Dumile found success in the early 1990s with 'Take Me To Your Leader' under the moniker King Geedorah. His 2004 album, 'Madvillainy' is considered to be his masterpiece album.
