Who is MF Doom's wife Jasmine? How rapper Daniel Dumile once confessed it's ‘hard to kiss’ in metal mask
Rapper Daniel Dumile, better known by one of his many aliases: King Geedorah, Metal Fingers, Viktor Vaughn, Zev Love or MF Doom, is no more. His family confirmed in a statement on Thursday, December 31, that he died at 49. Doom was never photographed without a metal mask and when he was around people he didn't know well, he didn't take it off.
In a loving statement on Instagram, his wife Jasmine Dumile revealed his passing. Beginning by saying “To Dumile,” she added, “The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give them another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be.”
The statement then read, “My world will never be the same without you. Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.” The cause of his death hasn't been revealed yet.
Who was MF DOOM?
Born on January 9, 1971, he was raised by a Trinidadian mother and a Zimbabwean father. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Long Island, New York, and he grew up in Freeport, New York. In third grade, he took a liking to DJ'ing. “My mother raised us with Islam,” Doom looked back on his childhood and said in an interview. “And then my father, being a teacher, always taught us about our people, about Marcus Garvey and the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. But when I started junior high school, I realized motherf**kers didn’t know about these people! So I was like, ‘Let’s spread the word.’ We were straight-up teachers.”
Back in 1988, he was just a teenager when he first entered the world of music as a member of the East Coast hip hop trio KMD and was known as Zev Love X. The group disbanded in 1993 after the death of Dumile's brother, DJ Subroc. After taking a hiatus, Dumile got back in 1998 and started performing at open mic events in a mask.
Interestingly, his mask is inspired by the Marvel Comics super-villain Doctor Doom, who was also featured on the cover of his 1999 debut solo album 'Operation: Doomsday'. Not just MF DOOM, he has also used other pseudonyms like King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn.
Who is Jasmine?
MF Doom first locked eyes with his wife Jasmine in the ’90s. Doom’s wife Jasmine owns his record label, Metal Face. Did you know he wrote a song named 'Jasmine Blossoms' in 2003?
The adorable couple said in a 2004 interview, “If you see any Crunkies on your way to the bathroom, tell ‘em you’re with the Villain.” The report then explained: The Villain is Doom; the Crunkies are the young men who come to the studio to hang out, bulls**t, and occasionally work on hip-hop records of the amped-up, Dirty South variety.
Joking about his mask in the same interview, he said he doesn't wear it around his wife. “Around wifey, of course, I don’t have it on,” Doom said. “It’s hard to kiss in this thing, right, baby? Scratches your face up!” She replied, “I tell him to keep it on,” adding, “Don’t show your face! You have freedom! You can go to the supermarket! That’s beautiful!” The duo has two children. One of their sons, King Malachi Ezekiel Dumile, born on February 22, 2003 tragically passed away in 2017 at age 14.
