Wendy Williams has won partial success in her battle to gain access to her bank accounts, but she is still unable to sign her own checks — something she does not approve of. Wendy Williams is upset that a court has appointed a financial guardian in her Wells Fargo lawsuit

In reaction to the Sun's report regarding a judge's decision to appoint a guardian, an attorney for Williams told Page Six in a statement on Friday, May 20, 2022 that Williams doesn't want anybody else to have control of her money. “Please be advised that Wendy is not in agreement with the appointment of a financial guardian by the court. Wendy has been very clear that she does not want a financial guardian to tell her what she can and cannot do with her money,” said attorney La'Shawn Thomas.

Williams' lawyer had more things to say about the situation, including pointing a finger at the bank. “Wendy feels that she is capable of hiring her own financial advisors who work for and report to her and not to the court,” Thomas stated.  “We believe that this story has been put forth in an attempt to lessen the public outcry and regulatory scrutiny mounting around Wells Fargo due to their actions.”

What is the Wells Fargo lawsuit?

Williams has been in a struggle with Wells Fargo for most of this year about being denied entrance to her presumably not inconsequential accounts while off the air due to Graves disease and other health difficulties. Williams employed her trademark frank attitude in a video broadcast online in March in which she accused her ex-manager Bernie Young of withdrawing $100,000 from her accounts to get a guardianship put in place: "I want my money, this is not fair."

Following concerns expressed by a previous advisor that Williams was of "unsound mind," the international financial services corporation effectively blocked Williams' accounts. “Wells Fargo’s priority is the financial well-being of Ms. Williams and the preservation of her privacy,”  the bank said in a statement in March, when a temporary guardian was appointed. “As we have expressed to the Court, Wells Fargo is open to working with Ms. Williams’ counsel to release funds directly to her creditors for bills historically and regularly paid from her accounts.”

Will Wendy return to screen?

The Wendy Williams Show, now in its 13th season, began bringing in guest hosts in January to fill in for Williams' absence. The Wendy Williams Show producer-distributor Lionsgate Debmar-Mercury officially turned down the lights in late February and launched a new syndicated show hosted by The View co-host Sherri Shepherd. Williams stated in a recent phone interview with GMA that she is "very well" and plans to return to television "to do my thing" soon.
