WARSAW, POLAND: Things are changing dramatically with each episode of Hulu's 'We Were the Lucky Ones,' portraying the Kurc family's struggle to endure the horrors of the Holocaust.

The popular novel of the same name by Georgia Hunter serves as the inspiration for the drama series, developed by Erica Lipez.

As was evident from the beginning, the Kurc family was leading an ordinary life until the Nazi invasion rocked their world. Each member of the family then embarks on a treacherous journey in a quest to stay alive.

Halina Kurc (Joey King), Mila Kurc (Hadas Yaron), and Jakob Kurc (Amit Rahav) have forged their identities and are now residents of Warsaw.

However, as the conflict spreads across Warsaw, the siblings find themselves trying to find a way to escape their situation.

Meanwhile, Genek Kurc (Henry Lloyd-Hughes), the oldest Kurc brother, struggles as he fights for the Soviets in the war while experiencing a shaken trust in God.

Amid the rampant anti-Semitism in Warsaw, Halina and Adam Eichenwald (Sam Woolf) decide to leave before the situation deteriorates further.

They go into hiding with Mila, while Halina and Adam emerge from their hiding place to get some food supplies and are devastated when they witness the city's dire situation.

The city was truly in a state of devastation, with relentless bombardment and aircraft flying overhead.

The pair learns that one of their friends, Rahel (Marina Bye), murdered three Germans before being killed herself, and that anybody can join the home army in the fight against the Nazis.

Later, Adam expresses his desire to join the army, however, Halina begs him not to leave since she needs him. Their conversation is interrupted by a nearby blast, prompting the pair to flee for their lives.

Mila, Halina, and Adam are alarmed when they hear a disturbance from their hiding spot but are relieved to discover that it is Jakob and Bella (Eva Feiler).

The group assembles and strategizes their next move, deciding that Jakob and Bella will find shelter while Adam and Mila will rescue Felicia, who is residing in a convent.

Halina is tasked with arranging money for their escape and decides to go to Krakow to meet Herr Den (Robert Dölle) and organize the cash, which Adam dislikes. However, Halina reminds them that they have no one else to turn to.

The group continues on their way before agreeing to meet at the same spot and time the next day.

Genek, on the other side, was seen on the battlefield as gunfire and explosions rang out. He appeared terrified, fighting to save himself, when suddenly he recalled Selim's (Michael Aloni) advice to place his faith in his loved ones if he didn't believe in God.

Genek immediately recalls his pleasant times with his family and, like a bolt of lightning, he becomes energized, tackling his enemies head-on.

Adam and Mila successfully rescue Felicia, finding her hiding with other convent children and nuns after their building is destroyed.

On the other side, a surprise check on Halina leads to her arrest. She attempts to deny being Jewish, but her words fall on deaf ears, and she is arrested.

With Hailna behind bars, things will surely take a heartbreaking turn in the next episode of 'We Were the Lucky Ones.'
