'Watchmen' Episode 7: Who is Lady Trieu's father? Fans bet on Adrian Veidt aka Ozymandias
In 'Watchmen' episode 7, Lady Trieu (Hong Chau) and Angela Abar (Regina King) have a conversation about each other's past. Trieu digs around to find more about Cal Abar's (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) "accident" in Vietnam that caused total loss of memories, while Angela questions Trieu about the dreams that Bian's (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) been having. From the sound of it, Angela concludes that Bian has been given Nostalgia as well, and when she comments on it, Trieu reveals that she is only giving Bian her memories back. She explains that Bian is not her daughter, but is, in fact, her mother. Speaking about why she brought her mother back, Trieu explains that it was to ensure that she had her parents with her to watch her achieve her goals.
Responding instinctively, Angela asks where Trieu's father is. It is interesting that Angela would pick on this in particular, as it makes it seem like Angela knows who Lady Trieu's father is. After the big reveal in the episode, about Cal Abar being Dr. Manhattan, this reaction makes sense now. If Adrian Veidt (Jeremy Irons) is really Lady Trieu's father, and if Dr. Manhattan, could have revealed the information to Angela before the two of them decided to erase his memories. It is possible that Angela assumes that Veidt is still held captive in Europa, when it fact, Veidt has possibly been rescued by his daughter Trieu.
Further hints that we have seen so far in the show also support this theory in a big way. The fact that Veidt wrote an SOS message that read, "Save me, D" could mean that he was hoping to get his daughter's -- that is Lady Trieu -- attention and not Dr. Manhattan. Then, there is also the statue that Trieu has of Veidt in his violet suit that he wore as Ozymandias. One scene that substantiates this theory further is the transition from Veidt's court hearing in Europa where he is seen with tears in his eyes, to the statue, which also bears the same emotion.
Going a step further, fans are also speculating that the statue of Veidt in Trieu's residence in Tulsa is actually Veidt himself. One fan on Reddit wrote, "Calling it now: the statue of Veidt IS Veidt. He was what came crashing to Earth when Lady Trieu bought the farmhouse." Yes, this is quite out there, but then so was Cal Abar's connection to Dr Manhattan. This theory could also partly be right. For instance, something did drop from the sky the day Trieu bought the farmhouse. She wanted to own whatever fell on that piece of land, which is why she acquired it in the first place. She also had enough time to clone a baby from the owners who were unable to conceive a baby and plan it all, which means that this could essentially be Veidt's rescue mission. However, the statue being Veidt himself is something that we are on the fence about.
The next episode of 'Watchmen' will air on Sunday at 9 pm ET on HBO.
