Arctic Monkeys played their first European show in nearly four years on Tuesday night as the band kicked off the latest leg of their world tour in Berlin, Germany. As NME points out, the gig also marked the first time that the indie poster boys from Sheffield had performed a full live show since the release of their polarizing sixth album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’.

The Monkeys kicked off their latest European tour at Columbiahalle in the German capital and chose to begin their set with their most recent single, 'Four Out Of Five' from TBH+C. This meant that frontman Alex Turner walked up to the mix without a guitar around his neck, an uncommon sight for fans, but the sing-along chants from the crowd showed that they did not mind it much.

Other tracks from the new album that made it to the night's setlist included ‘She Looks Like Fun’ (which saw a cameo from Tame Impala/Pond's Cameron Avery), ‘One Point Perspective’ and ‘American Sports’.

Unsurprisingly though, the album that dominated the set list was 2013's 'AM'. Seven out of the twenty songs (including the encore) were from 'AM': 'Do I Wanna Know?'; 'Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?'; 'Arabella'; 'Knee Socks' and 'One For the Road' all did a number on the crowd. Of course, Alex Turner and the boys also belted out a fair mix of the classics, including the likes of 'Crying Lightning', 'Brainstorm', '505' and 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor'.

The encore included two more hits from 'AM' - 'Snap Out Of It' and 'R U Mine?', which strangely managed to stir up a mosh pit for some reason. I'm not sure how the Monkeys felt about that as they sported their new suave and relaxed 50's look while on stage, but it certainly was a very strong-handed German hello for their first European gig.
