J.M. Coetzee's famous book 'Waiting for the Barbarians' is finally arriving on-screen featuring some of the biggest names in the industry. Pegged on the murderous Colonel Joll and his expedition to hunt down the titular barbarians from the other side of the wall, the film by Ciro Guerra will chronicle the Colonel's plans and his conflicted officer Mandel who is constantly at war with serving his duties and maintaining his integrity. How Colonel Joll will influence Mandel's decision, and the role that the former Magistrate plays will, form the crux of the film. But before going forward, here are the big faces expected to be seen in the August release.

Johnny Depp as Colonel Joll

Depp is finally returning to the big screen after last appearing in the 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald'. This comes after Depp spent most of his time in the spotlight making headlines for his libel trial against The Sun, whom he is suing for calling him a "wife-beater" after his ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of domestic violence. Despite major backlash online, Depp is now on the good side of social media after Heard's alleged abusive behavior towards him surfaced. Depp's role as the Colonel will see him lead special forces to capture barbarians beyond the frontier. Those captured will later be tortured as punishment.

Mark Rylance as the Magistrate

Rylance's character was teased in one of the first looks of the film, where the colonel can be seen striding in front of the Magistrate clad in colonial outfits. The Magistrate is known to get outed for reasons and conspiracy. Rylance, who plays the role, is an English actor, theatre director and playwright. He was also the first artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe in London, between 1995 and 2005.

Robert Pattinson as Mandel

Pattinson appears as yet another young, conflicted patron of law and justice in the movie. His character Mandel is that of a warrant officer, who is asked to replace the Magistrate (Rylance) after news of his treason and conspiring with the barbarians is outed. Elsewhere, Pattinson is busy donning his bat-suit as the indie actor is all set to grace screens as the new age Gotham vigilante, Batman in the upcoming movie adaptations of the DC superhero.

'Waiting for the Barbarians' premieres on Videos on Demand on Friday, August 7.
