‘Vikings’ Season 6 Episode 3 hints at an imminent attack on Kattegat

The newest and the final season of the historical epic saga has unraveled a whole new chapter of the Vikings of the 8th and 9th centuries, and preview of Episode 3 indicates that Bjorn’s kingdom will once again be under attack.

After waiting for almost a year, the Vikings are back in our lives with more exploits, more drama, and more mayhem. With History Channel dropping the final season of ‘Vikings’ a week ago, we saw many new angles unfold in the lives of Bjorn, Lagertha, Ivar, and their people. So far, we know Ivar has found a refuge of sort in Kievan Rus.

At first, he is taken captive by the Kievan king Oleg, but soon they find a strange but unlikely similarity in each other’s personalities which brings them closer. While it might look like bromance between two ruthless kings, we cannot forget that they are both brutal and opportunists of the highest order.

Oleg’s intention of befriending Ivar is not out of any admiration for Ragnar’s crippled son or because he thinks himself to be a descendant of Odin, but because Oleg is perceptive and knows Ivar’s extent of aggression and drive to win any battle and take over lands that he desires.

Oleg has a different agenda altogether. He wants to take back Viking kingdoms of Norway, which once belonged to his ancestors (his family later converted to Christianity). Now, as he meets Ivar, his intentions become stronger and he is all set to raid Kattegat. As far as Ivar is concerned, he had no plans so far, until he landed at King Oleg’s.

After seeing the Russian king kill his brother in cold blood and not flinching, Ivar realized that it would make most sense to ally with a powerful ruler like Oleg and use his resources, strategy, and foresightedness. So, with their alliance getting stronger, it looks like a war might ensue between Bjorn and Ivar, sooner than expected.

Elsewhere, Lagertha has retired to the countryside, engaging in building her (and Ragnar’s) dream farm, away from the bloodshed and misery that she has spent years witnessing. She is so determined to give her life and legacy of the leading shield maiden and embrace her new life that she even buries her sword with an oath to the gods of not taking up arms again. But as it appears from the promos of Episode 3 ‘Ghosts, Gods and Running Dogs’, she will have to cut her farm life short and wield her sword and shield once again and save her land from Ivar and Oleg, because there will be war and soon enough.
