Lockdown may be lifting up gradually but that doesn’t stop the Verzuz battles. The latest artistes to face-off in an Instagram Live battle are the legendary Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. Gladys, who earned the title of Empress of Soul back in the day, will face her long-time counterpart Patti, who earned the title of Goddess of Soul.

The official account of Verzuz battle had announced the newest face-off with these legendary artistes. Verzuz titled it as the “Masterclass” we all have been waiting for.

Gladys and Patti had also been actively sharing information about their face-off on their respective Instagram accounts. Fans were entertained when Gladys crooned her classics like ‘Midnight Train to Georgia,’ ‘I Don’t Want to Know’, ‘Double or Nothing’ and ‘Neither One of Us’, which she had performed with her group called Gladys Knight + The Pips. Meanwhile, Patti mesmerized her fans with her hit songs such as ‘On My Own',’ ‘If Only You Knew’ and ‘Lady Marmalade’ among others.

The Soul queens had earlier collaborated on numerous songs but their track called ‘Superwoman’ stands out from the rest. The moment the ‘Verzuz Battle’ was announced between the two, fans could not control their excitement. A lot of them took to Twitter to express their happiness and shared their love for both the legends.

One said, "Auntie Gladys was in the back before the show saying 'make sure this mic stay on' she came readyyyy #Verzuz." One fan said, "The girls is not singing singing like Patti and Gladys no more... not a damn soul!!! #Verzuz." Another fan added, "These women are pushin 80, sitting down, and singing better than your fav’s best auto tune. And they fine. #Verzuz."

One social media user said, "Gladys and Patti said forget listening to the songs, we're singing them. They are giving us a LIVE concert! #Verzuz #verzuzbattle." One said, "A live concert with Patty and Gladys, while we sit in our homes in comfy clothes, is one of the few gifts 2020 gave us." Another said, "Do yourself a favor and turn on ⁦#Verzuz RIGHT NOW. Gladys and Patti are the best thing you have seen lately! #QUEENS."

The ‘Verzuz’ battle was created by music producers Swizz Beats and Timbaland with an intention to entertain people who were stuck indoors during the coronavirus lockdown.

Interestingly, the most recent battle of ‘Brandy vs Monica’ shattered records when their three-hour live Instagram battle scored six million views in total across all platforms. Apart from Instagram, viewers can also catch the battle on Apple TV.
