Grimes' quest to alter her looks by getting 'elf ears' has received a thumbs down response from Elon Musk. The performer, 34, claimed to have scheduled a consultation with "a great plastic surgeon" two years ago as she believed she might want to change things up in her mid 30s, but she never followed through.

Then she posed the following question to her audience: "Any face mods y'all think would look good on me?" Grimes talked of wanting "elf ear modifiers" and "vampire teeth caps." She posed the question, "Also, has anyone done elf ear mods with a good outcome?" in a different tweet to her followers.

"Im scared about ear cartilage having a hard time healing," she wrote. "Especially as a musician this surgery seems risky but I've wanted it my whole life. Curious about peoples experiences!"

Musk, with whom she has two children, replied to the post on Tuesday, saying, "The downside of elf ear surgery probably outweighs the upside."

Grimes replied, "Tbh this sounds like a job for crispr. Sad to be born just a few generations too early."

The acronym CRISPR stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, which, according to the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, "are the hallmark of a bacterial defense system that forms the basis for CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology."

The terminolgy is used for systems "that can be programmed to target specific stretches of genetic code and to edit DNA at precise locations, as well as for other purposes, such as for new diagnostic tools," as per the center's website.

In 2018, after meeting on Twitter, Musk and Grimes attended the Met Gala as a pair for the first time. They welcomed son X Æ A-12 in May 2020, and Grimes announced earlier this year in Vanity Fair's April cover story that the pair also had a baby girl through surrogacy in December 2021, who they have called Exa Dark Siderael (or Y).

Vanity Fair was also informed by Grimes that she thought of SpaceX's 51-year-old founder as her lover, despite Musk's statement from last September that the two were "semi-separated, but still love each other."

The "Oblivion" singer tweeted, however, that their relationship status had altered since the interview on the day that her Vanity Fair article went on sale.
