'Briarpatch' Episode 8: Eve puts on a good cop act but how long will her true intentions stay hidden?

Eve may have not wanted to bomb Felicity, but she seems to know what exactly went down and may also have been complicit with it given her big political dreams

In just a week, Saint Bonifacio has witnessed a series of murders. While Lalo (David Zaldivar) fell prey to Clyde Brattle's (Alan Cumming) revenge on Jake Spivey (Jay R Ferguson), Lucretia Colder (Christine Woods) decides to take the matter into her own hands and finishes Harold Snow (Timm Sharp).

While the town was still seeing the smokey remains of the previous twin bombings, the two tragic deaths that followed have left people shaken.

However, not everyone is as disturbed by these issues in the crime-ridden town. Police chief Eve Raytek (Kim Dickens) makes the best out of the least ideal situation and declares that she would be running for Mayor in the coming elections as she believes the Texas town needs a righteous leader.

Eve may have never spoken ill of Felicity Dill (Michele Weaver) and has always told Allegra Dill (Rosario Dawson) how dear her sister was to her. But, it has now been established that she was only concerned about her colleague's death as an investigation into it could serve as the ticket for her entry into politics.

The police chief who all along told Allegra to do her job while she did hers, in Episode 8 forms a collaboration with her and Jake Spivey to catch Clyde Brattle. Her manipulative ways only took a few minutes of confrontation with Allegra to work and the next thing we see, she is pointing a gun at Clyde's men at the school reunion.

Maybe we could only have considered her good intentions had she not gone by Mayor Tony Salaza’s (Mel Rodriguez) order and published a news story that not only tarnished the image of a loyal police officer but also was indicative of Eve's hidden motives, which required her to draw a curtain on the deaths of innocent citizens

The previous episode also revealed that Eve was well-aware of Gene Colder's (Brian Geraghty) interest in serving Clyde. Although the series doesn’t directly hint at Eve's involvement in the twin bombing, the fact that she knew about Gene's involvement alone is enough to alarm one about her motives.

And, Eve is also the only one from her department who is spotted at the crime spot even before the crime is committed. And she also tells Allegra that Felicity's death will always be in her conscience, but it is "out of her hands".

As of now, we've learned that Felicity's death was the consequence of a political agenda that sees the involvement of all the influential people of Saint Bonifacio, including Eve.

She may have not wanted to bomb Felicity, but she seems to know what exactly went down and may also have been complicit with it given her big political dreams. 'Briarpatch' airs on Mondays on USA Network.
