LAS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Directed by Carlson Young, Amazon Prime Video's latest movie, 'Upgraded,' made its streaming debut on February 9.

The film follows Ana (Camila Mendes), a low-level trainee at a prestigious auction house, as she meets the love of her life, a handsome British man named Will (Archie Renaux), after being mistaken for her boss Claire (Marisa Tomei).

While the plot may seem familiar, Upgraded manages to breathe new life into the genre, offering a relatable and heartwarming story.

Ana is a simple girl who just wishes to climb the success ladder and rightfully gets the chance too when, one fine day, upon impressing Claire, she manages to land a position as her assistant and a golden chance to accompany her to London.

Her life takes a drastic turn when she surprisingly gets upgraded to the first class and soon meets the charming and handsome brit William, who misidentifies her as Claire. Not wanting to let go of her chance, she also plays along with the act.

Carlson Young has yet again proved her multi-talents, as she has skillfully executed the film's aesthetics with dynamic storytelling that elevates the emotional depth of the movie.

She should be appreciated for her ability to capture the essence of each element involved in the movie, be it the vibrant colours of the art gallery, Erwin, or the intimate moments between the characters.

The writing of the movie strikes a perfect balance of romance and heartfelt moments, which is inspired by a kind of modern-day Cinderella. Christine Lenig, Justin Matthews, and Luke Spencer Roberts have crafted a script that is witty, relatable, and filled with one-liners.

The movie's strength lies in its ability to blend the classical tropes of romance with a fresh take on career struggles.

The narrative is relatable, where Ana's life trajectory is translated on screen skillfully, be it her ambitions or her self-doubt; it's all portrayed with a rawness that gives a classic touch of authenticity to the narrative.

Camila Mendes shines as ambitious Ana

Camila Mendes' portrayal of charismatic yet bound to her unfavourable circumstances, Ana, is acted well.

She has embodied the character with both vulnerability and resilience and shines as a determined Ana.

Her humour and charm have brought depth to the character, who bears insults but is looking out for the bigger picture and continuously works hard to gain that one golden chance.

Archie Renaux also shows his charisma and has all the elements in him to be a heartthrob.

His loveable and easy-going chemistry with Mendes brings charm to the narrative. His comedic timing is also wonderful.

Maris Tomei has also delivered a noteworthy performance as Ana's formidable boss, and her confidence has shone throughout the running time of the movie.

Her portrayal of a sharp-tongued boss provides further comedic gigs in the movie.

The film embraces the professional aspirations of a contemporary Cinderalla while maintaining a romantic genre, which results in a novel and delightful viewing experience.

The movie's treatment, despite having a familiar plot, gives the rom-com genre a fresh new energy by narrating the endearing tale of an aspirational girl with potential who is merely waiting for her opportunity to move up the ladder.

'Upgraded' is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
