Three episodes in and we may have seen the limits of just how far the contestants are willing to push themselves. Today's contestants gave future runners quite a legend to live up to, as both the men and the women's teams gave the course all they had. We take a look at some of the highlights from tonight's episode of 'Ultimate Tag'.

The women started out strong in Chase Tag, although weightlifter Melissa's speed came nowhere near matching her prodigious strength — she took a fall early on, hitting her head in the tumble. Vanessa and Erika, however, ran literal circles around the Boss, wearing her out and forcing her to tag in the Bulldog, who soon tagged out Erika. Vanessa still had enough run left in her to lead the Banshee on a merry race — leaving Melissa's score significantly behind.

Though she made a valiant effort, Melissa was unable to catch up to the eight-point lead the other women had on her and was sent home. Vanessa used her flag football skills to spin away from the game's resident taggers enough times to keep her lead, though Erika wasn't far behind. Vanessa made decent time in Revenge Tag, but the combination of the Horse and the Caveman cornering her took her down, much to the Horse's exuberant joy. Erika was able to begin catching up in Revenge Tag, managing to not only tag the Flame but also throw the tagger's flag back in her face — not something the Flame took lying down. Her victories in earlier rounds gave Vanessa a two-second lead in the final showdown. Those two seconds proved to be the clincher as Vanessa managed to beat Erika's time by a single second, also scoring her the fastest Showdown run that 'Ultimate Tag' has seen so far.

The men did not fare as well, as it was injury after injury right from the get go. From Flowwe's 360 degree flip right onto Alex's neck in Chase Tag, to Don's ankle injury in Dodge Tag, the men pushed through their pain but it just kept on coming. Don did not let a partly twisted ankle keep him from winning round after round. He was visibly worn out at the end of his showdown, but not as much as Blake. Blake's literal Archilles tendon proved to be his undoing, and Don won by default after Blake was too injured to go on.

Though Erika may have lost her race against Vanessa, she did beat one important time — her husband Don's, by 15 entire seconds. Don did win the men's competition though. So as far as Don and Erika go, 'Ultimate Tag' ends with a win-win.

The next episode of 'Ultimate Tag' airs June 10 on FOX.
