Who was Taylor Roberts? ‘Dark Winds’ Season 4 episode 2 pays tribute to late key crew member
'Dark Winds' Season 4 has been off to an impressive start, and the mystery thriller piqued fans' interest with a tribute card in episode 2. The hit AMC show featured a dedicated episode card for Taylor Roberts, sparking discussion of her name and her vital role in the show's success.
The new season follows major characters Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten), and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of Billie Tsosie from the Navajo reservation. The episode paid a rich tribute to Roberts, the makeup head for the show's third instalment. Per reports, she was likely to have led the makeup department of the show, especially with the '70s setting.
Her work in making 'Dark Winds' look as authentic as possible as a period piece was instrumental in the show's impressive run. While there have been no official details about her passing, the tribute was confirmation of the key player's death. Roberts' other projects include 'The Really Loud House' for four episodes in 2022 and 'Flamin' Hot and Snag' the following year.
On the season front, episode 2 focused on the Red House Diner shooting, which saw Irene Vaggan, a trained German killer, open fire on Albert Gorman and Tsosie. The final minutes of the episode see Albert dead, with Chee finding out about the murder. The pacy episode also hints at how the trio looks to shift bases as they widen their search for Tsosie, even as Vaggan continues to stay in the hunt for the missing teen. The two episodes so far have done a solid job in building the world of Billie Tsosie.
The synopsis for episode 3, titled 'Ahááldláádígíí (That Which Has Been Torn Apart)', has already been revealed. "Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito search for Billie in Los Angeles. Chee is confronted by memories of his past while Leaphorn reconnects with Emma. Vaggan returns to the hunt when she learns that Billie is in town looking for her remaining family."
The logline for Season 4 reads, "The series’ gripping fourth season focuses on the search for a missing Navajo girl, which takes Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito from the safety of Navajo Nation to the gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles in a race against the clock to save her from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime."
'Dark Winds' Season 4 opened to positive reviews with six episodes remaining in the eight-chapter thriller. Considering the start, the show will stick to its tried-and-tested template of balancing a slow burn with brief bursts of action while maintaining suspense. The series was created by Graham Roland, who executive produces with McClarnon, George R. R. Martin, Tina Elmo, Vince Gerardis, Vince Calandra, and Chris Eyre. The show is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman.
'Dark Winds' Season 4 releases weekly on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC and AMC+. Previous seasons of the show are streaming on the AMC collection on Netflix.
