DUBLIN, IRELAND: Did you know that one of the biggest rock bands of the world would have been left one frontman short if he was compelled enough to leave? U2’s lead singer-songwriter Bono had recently made the shocking admission that he had considered quitting the band in the past. In a new Disney+ documentary called ‘A Kind of Homecoming,’ the rockstar had said that he “certainly thought about walking away,” on multiple occasions.

So what convinced the ‘With or Without You’ singer to stay? On that, Bono says it was his desire to stay and create the ultimate song that kept him glued to his group. He also went on to add that he is very motivated and has a desire to write the songs that he believes the group do not have yet. He had also defended his thoughts about leaving, stating that all the members of the band have considered leaving at some point in their five decades together. The band comprises of The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton.

‘We have all thought about it’

“I have certainly thought about walking away from U2, every member has. We have all thought about it,” Bono said. He then went on to add, “It is the right instinct to question whether this should still be going and what it demands of all four members… But the reason why I want to go forward is something is stirring in my voice and my singing and the desire to write songs we don’t have yet. We are chasing the dragon of the song we can’t get.”

Daily Mail reports that he then went on to add some heartwarming words for his bandmates, stating, “The real magic of U2 is that everything we needed, the people we needed, were always right there.”

‘I test their patience’

Apart from their musical success, Bono is well-known for his activism and all the strides he takes for causes he believes in. However, it seems that when they clash with what U2 stands for, his bandmates became wary of him. “Friendship is deeply part of who we are, but you could lose that in along the way. We had to work hard on it,” he said.

The singer then went on to add, “If you are in a rock and roll band, you don’t want to be in the photograph with some people who might have polarizing opposite values you hold dear, and I did that to them [his bandmates].” He also admitted to turning the band “into a currency” with his active involvement in activism and that he was aware that he tested his bandmates’ patience.
