'Tyler Perry's Assisted Living' Episode 4 Review: Grandpa Vinny avoids getting busted for growing weed

Spoilers for 'Tyler Perry's Assisted Living' Episode 4 'Assaulted'

Seriously. How do you have a full-blown arena of greens in the backyard and still not get busted? Grandpa Vinny is quite the character, and as Jeremy and Leah are struggling to come to terms with the new reality under his roof, not only do they have to endure Vinny shitting on practically anything around, but also tackle his quirks like growing weed in the backyard.

Episode 4 titled 'Assaulted' sees Grandpa Vinny as the object of this barely even an assault that turns into a whole incident at the facility. But when Vinny calls the cops because he can't be bothered to deal with it, his granddaughter in law Leah reminds him the police may find more than he intended for them, should they ever come to check the house.

And even though Vinny's got some contacts to get himself out of trouble, the first scapegoat he uses to get out of this mess is of course his own grandson — Jeremy.

It's a pattern between the two; Jeremy means well for his old grandfather but the older man doesn't quite have the penchant for savings, or anything wise, for that matter. For someone who always criticizes whatever's going on in the house, Vinny sure had the nerve to waste all of Jeremy's inheritance on the dilapidated new home.

And once an accident occurs on the premises following a spitfire row between the two over renovating the place, you would think maybe Jeremy should go check on his gramps. But gramps isn't all that naive and vulnerable of course. Growing weed in the backyard, he is pretty hip for his age. And when the prospect of getting busted for this recreational activity comes, Vinny just suggests he pin it all under Jeremy's name because why not. 

Vinny, having been a local also has contacts that know just the right strings to pull. Him getting into trouble isn't as big of a deal as Leah worries it is. But Jeremy getting caught for the crime as a jobless married father of two might not bode well for his resume. And at this moment, it is only Leah's common sense and stern command that could save the family from falling apart.

The endless laughter tracks are a bother though, getting in the way of actually connecting the comedic dots in the episode and finding something funny. Cora and Mr Brown's steady lack of appearances also raises a fear as to whether we shall be stuck with Vinny and his sleazy, too old school for cool, corny jokes for the rest of the season. The Browns are being severely missed and if Leah can't help us, let's hope they can!
