In an earlier interview, K-pop singer Sunmi shared that the ‘Full Moon’ crooner was originally supposed to write the lyrics of the much-anticipated single of TWICE. She also talked about why she couldn’t end up doing the project.
In a recent Vlive, while interacting with fans, Sunmi asked, "Did TWICE's song come out? Is 'Cry For Me' out? I saw their first stage at MAMA. I was asked to write the lyrics but I was so busy with my promotions at that time that I couldn't. Isn't it really good? I love it." She added, "Oh, it hasn't been officially released yet? I see. The song is so good though.”
Prior to the release of the music video, a teaser photo of the concept and more will be released on December 14. Here’s what we know so far about the single release.
Release date and time
TWICE’s 'Cry For Me' will be released on December 18 at 2 pm KST / 12 am EST.
Concept
‘Cry For Me’ is a rather "bad girl" concept as it is evident from the released concept video and the banger MAMA performance so far. The clever use of the red and black palette overall for the background sets the tone of the video with the girls looking alluring in their magnetic gaze. Almost bare set designs with nothing but candles and thorns also hint at the concept of sin. In a pre-chorus Dahyun, Momo and Jeongyeon can be heard singing “Bad boy, bad boy/ Yeah, you really make me a mad girl, mad girl.”
Pre-buzz
The buzz for this TWICE release is at its all-time high after the teaser film dropped. While the fans have been praising the visuals, some have also noticed the key elements of the video. Jeongyeon is missing in the concept video which makes fans believe that she is the main character for the MV. A fan page shared, “Jeongyeon is missing in the concept film, she’s really the main character of the entire story.”
Another said, “I can't with this powerful visual. Ms Chou Tzuyu ya'll.” A fan shared, “Tzuyu in this concept is beyond powerful! I'm literally crying!” Another excited fan posted, “Cry For Me.. this concept is INSANE.” Speaking of the theme, a fan said, “IT IS SO DARK IN A GOOD WAY DAMN.”
