Grammys 2022: Trevor Noah mocks Will Smith's Oscar's slap, fans call jibe 'perfectly handled’
A week after Will Smith shook the Internet by slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, Trevor Noah reminded everyone about the fiasco at the 64th edition of the Grammys held at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3, 2022. Trevor, who hosted the coveted music award ceremony for the second time, took a funny jab during his opening monologue at the Grammys that quickly got the Internet talking.
Smith had smacked Rock after the latter had cracked a balding joke on the actor’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Rock was on the stage at the Oscars while presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature. Smith had apologized for the mishap right after winning the Best Actor for ‘King Richard’. The ‘Men in Black’ star later resigned from the Academy over his indisciplinary action. Social media users quickly took to Twitter to speak on Noah taking a dig at Smith’s infamous stunt.

'Don’t even think of this as an award show'
While addressing the audience at the 64th Grammys right before Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak’s Silk Sonic performance, Noah quipped, “Don’t even think of this as an award show” adding, “It’s a concert where we are giving out awards, we will be listening to music, dancing, sing, keeping people’s names out of our mouths and we are going to give people awards all throughout the night. So let’s get straight into it.”
Questlove too addressed Smith’s Oscars slap while presenting the Grammy for song of the year saying, “All right, I am going to present this award and I trust that you people will stay 500 feet away from me. As they say it is far better to give than to receive. Well, I’m not so sure about that because last Sunday it felt pretty good to receive.” Questlove had won the Oscar for documentary feature right after Smith slapped Rock. For the unversed, Noah was seen posing with Smith and his wife Jada following the 'King Richard' star's Best Actor win for his role in the film. This had then irked a lot of social media users.
‘He better be glad Will isn’t there’
Reacting to Noah’s jibe at Smith, one user stated, "Trevor is dope. Buuuuut, nah... this wasn't it.” Another chimed in, “Didnt trevor literally speak up FOR will and now hes being fake af.” One user stated, “Omg yes! It was so edgy that he did that!” Whereas, one person added, “I thought Bruno was going to will smith Trevor Noah #GRAMMYs.” The next one shared, “Trevor snuck that Will Smith joke in there lol.” One viewer even thought the jibe and the reference was "Perfectly handled." One added, “Trevor Noah is a great host. His Will/Chris dig was perfect. Not too much, but just enough.” Meanwhile, one tweeted, “Eight minutes in and already Trevor Noah made a joke about the slap. He better be glad Will isn’t there.” And, one concluded, “I'm about halfway thru this Trevor Noah opening speech and i already need Will Smith.”
