'Robbed and deprived': Tory Lanez claims he's wrongfully convicted, seeks fair trial in Megan Thee Stallion shooting
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Canadian rapper Tory Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) requested the DA to grant him a fair trial this time around even though he will soon serve a prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Through social media, Lanez has expressed his displeasure with his conviction and his request for a fresh trial.
On a different topic, Megan Thee Stallion has had it with Lanez and has made the decision to move on for the better as the rapper has been found guilty of the crimes. Megan, who has experienced gun violence, consequent humiliation in public, and trauma, also published an op-ed in a prestigious publication.

'Robbed and deprived of a fair trial'
The letter, which is addressed to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon, makes a number of allegations against Deputy District Attorneys Alex Bott and Kathy Ta, including what Lanez called their illegal abuse of power to "hide and suppress any and all exculpatory evidence that exonerates me, or furthers my innocence," he wrote.
The initial motion for a new trial that Lanez's counsel submitted did not mention evidence withholding. The motion hearing for a new trial is scheduled for May 8 and the Canadian rapper Lanez says he owes it to his loved ones, friends, and supporters to fight for his freedom, reports TMZ. Lanez also mentioned the Black and Hispanic minorities that cannot efficiently fight for themselves.
Lanez, who could spend up to 22 years behind bars, claims in the letter that he is innocent and claims that he was "completely robbed and deprived of a fair trial." On May 8, his attorneys will argue a motion for a new trial, and he declares himself to be in support of "the hundreds of thousands of Black and Hispanic minorities that cannot adequately fight for themselves."
In the caption on Instagram, Lanez wrote, "Until my court date I’ll be posting the OUTRAGEOUS & DISGUSTING INJUSTICES used against me by the PROSECUTION to get the conviction they so DESPERATELY wanted, DESPITE the evidence they knew existed"
Prosecutors primarily referred to texts as the primary source of evidence. The night of the incident in July 2020, Kelsey Harris sent a note to Lanez's security that read, "Help" and "Tory shot Meg." Lanez also sent Megan a message to apologize for the shooting. George Mgdesyan, the attorney for Lanez, said that rather than an admission of guilt, Lanez's apology call to Megan was motivated by his romantic relationship with both her and Harris, who was granted protection for her evidence in the trial.
'Free Tory'
Fans and followers quickly took to the comment section of Lanez's post and poured out their respective points of view. One user exclaimed, "Free Tory," while another commented, "This what happens when you refuse to be a slave to the industry and try be independent." Another fan commented, "This what happens when you refuse to be a slave to the industry and try be independent." Someone else commented, "My whole thing is … why did she double back?? Like she left the party.. that was enough, why come back?? And with what?! Those are the loopholes they need to figure.. women alwaaays gotta get the last say.. she came back literally to fight.." Another social media user commented, "They wanted you since QUARANTINE radio, you got off that label and was making M’s in 30 seconds!! You were flipping the nft and made fans rich,You exposed them on every song on the album!! Them devils used this set up to get you. But the devil forgot GOD WILL overturn all this in the name of Jesus. Free you Tory , one of my ALL AROUND FAVORITES."
Megan Thee Stallion says she's 'a survivor, not a victim'
On April 18, the feisty Grammy Award-winning performer adamantly stated that she prefers to refer to herself as "a survivor" rather than a "victim." She talked openly about how she dealt with the trauma brought on by the betrayal from a person she "trusted and considered a close friend."
Megan opened up in the op-ed as she prepares to grace the cover of Elle magazine's May issue. She called Lanez "my attacker" and claimed, "For years, my attacker peddled false narratives about what happened on the night of July 12, 2020. For years, my attacker tried to leverage social media to take away my power." But she "persevered." "I could have let the adversity break me, but I persevered, even as people treated my trauma like a running joke," she added.
She went on to say that even though she was "releasing music," she was "falling into a depression." The ‘Savage’ singer (real name is Megan Pete), explained about the lowest point of her life, "The truth is that I started falling into a depression. I didn’t feel like making music. . . There would be times that I’d literally be backstage or in my hotel, crying my eyes out, and then I’d have to pull Megan Pete together and be Megan Thee Stallion."
As per the 28-year-old rapper, "The guilty verdict on December 23, 2022, was more than just vindication for me, it was a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them."
What happened on July 2020?
In a statement released on July 15, 2020, Megan Thee Stallion stated: "I suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me. I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets," according to Variety. Although it was first unclear what occurred on July 27, she said she had been shot in both feet.
She admitted to being shot by R&B rapper Tory Lanez in August 2020 and stated, "I didn’t tell the police what happened immediately right there because I didn’t want to die," reported BuzzFeedNews.
According to Rap-Up, Larez was indicted for shooting Megan in October 2020 and was advised to keep a 100 yards distance from her. He was detained in April 2022 for breaking the protective order. After Megan testified against him, the case was ultimately closed in December 2022 when Lanez was found guilty of three felony charges related to the shooting.
