Over the weeks, Gregory Gourdet has won over judges and fans with his dedication to the craft and passion to win. But his journey on 'Top Chef' came to an abrupt and unexpected end this week. The chefs were tasked with an interesting white truffles challenge, in which they could serve any dish they wanted as long as it had truffles in them. Gregory had the perfect dish in mind - a wild board and cocoa stew. He was hoping to marry the earthy flavors of the truffle with his stew but the idea didn't come through as judges nit-picked on what went wrong with his dish. However, Gregory appeared confident as he explained how he went about ideating it.

"I felt those flavors were really representative of things that I do, and I felt I could make a dish that was really part of me," he said. Tom Colicchio was impressed with the idea but thought it fell short. "The stew was great, it’s just not a great dish with truffles,” Tom continued.

Gregory's elimination interview was heartbreaking because he really wanted to get ahead but also knows that we don't always get what we work for.  "I know I gave ‘Top Chef’ 110 percent," he said and added that he will surely walk away with a few regrets but in his heart, he knows that he gave it his all and this experience would definitely serve as a "jumping stone" to his next chapter.

Meanwhile, fans are livid that Gregory was asked to pack his knives while Kevin Gillespie gets to stay. However, they did appreciate Melissa King's win. "Melissa has been killing it these last few weeks! Rooting for her to win this season. That said I would have bet it would be her and Gregory in the end, sad to see him go home. I really thought Stephanie was going to be sent home for the radicchio. #topchef," a fan commented, while another shared: "Wow. The AUDACITY of #TopChef to send Gregory home over plantation Kevin. Are Tom Colicchio & Kevin related or something? Bc he’s been pulling for him all season. Melissa is the true, clear winner this season but I have a terrible feeling they’re gonna wrong her too."

"I haven’t watch #TopChef yet, but seeing the tweets that Gregory went home.  I’m done with this show. Delete it off my DVR," a viewer expressed. "Ok so Gregory’s dish didn’t celebrate the truffle but Kevin made meatballs AGAIN. Come on. #TopChef #TOPCHEF2020," another tweeted.
