Tommy DiDario 'bursts with pride' as husband Gio Benitez becomes 'GMA' weekend co-anchor
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ABC News channel has some good news for you. It has promoted gay correspondent Gio Benitez by naming him one of the network’s weekend programs’ co-anchors. Cuban-American journalist Gio Benitez has joined the weekend edition of 'Good Morning America' as a co-anchor. He will now host the show alongside his two "best friends" Janai Norman and Whit Johnson. Benitez has been in the industry for a decade and has done several news segments for TV shows like, 'Nightline', 'World News Tonight', '20/20', and 'Good Morning America'.
Gio Benitez being promoted to an anchor position on the most-viewed morning news TV program, bringing even more gay representation on an International platform that has already celebrated and featured Robin Roberts for many years. Back in 2020, Benitez covered aviation at ABC News and has also been responsible for the coverage of the aviation industry during the pandemic, space during America’s private space race, and the auto industry, Godwin said.

'Give a warm welcome to our new GMA Weekend anchor'
The official Instagram account of 'Good Morning America' shared a video introducing Gio Benitez as the new co-anchor of the show and wrote, "Give a warm welcome to our new GMA Weekend anchor @giobenitez! So happy to have Gio on our anchor desk." Benitez's elevation to co-anchor is a great approach to represent the LGBTQ+ community, as it will surely inspire queer kids and kids of color to believe they too can be successful television journalists.

Since 2016, Benitez has been married to fellow TV host and correspondent Tommy DiDario. In April 2023, the couple celebrated their 7-year anniversary. Tommy DiDario is clearly a great husband as he celebrated his husband's win over on his social media and shared that when the news of his husband becoming a co-anchor on 'Good Morning America' came out, he couldn't contain the excitement and kept that a secret was a big task and wrote, "The moment @giobenitez signed his contract to become the new Co-anchor of @GMA Saturday and Sunday. It’s been hard keeping this secret because I’ve been bursting with pride. The size of your talent is matched by the size of your heart. Congratulations, my anchorman."
