On Monday night's drama-filled third episode of 'The Bachelorette,' suitors were forced to pick between Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey. Rachel and Gabby thrived on their one-on-one dates on July 25 episode of the show, but were brutally rejected by other men.

After only three episodes of their twin "journey," the Bachelorettes decided to divide the men into two groups: Team Rachel and Team Gabby. Zach and Rachel began the week on a hopeful note with a nice one-on-one date, but Gabby's situation wasn't looking so good until her one-on-one with Erich... and an unexpected third wheel. While both women had a good time on their photo shoot date, the after-party only made one of them pleased. With animosity lingering in the air, Rachel and Gabby decided to tweak the rules in an attempt to reclaim control. And it all came to a head with a heated mess of a rose ceremony!

As the episode began, there were still 21 men competing for Gabby and Rachel. But the ladies were curious as to which of them the men favored. Jesse Palmer, the host, informed the men that the women had canceled the cocktail reception and that they would proceed directly to the ceremony. He revealed that Gabby and Rachel had elected to take distinct paths on the show, with one group for each of them.

“If you accept a rose tonight that means you are committed to dating one woman, that woman that offers the rose that you accept, and not the other,” Jesse explained. With Aven and Zach already safe thanks to roses from Rachel and Erich thanks to Gabby, there were just 18 men left in the running. Gabby told the guys that she'd had some “hurtful” conversation chats that had changed her outlook. But it was Rachel who felt the burn first!

While Logan and Tino accepted Rachel's roses, Termayne, her third choice, said, "I am going to have to decline the rose," feeling more drawn to Team Gabby. That decision cost Rachel her rose, which Jesse quickly removed from her podium. Jesse, the host, stated that they would reintroduce Termayne to the group to see whether Gabby chose him. "It was so embarrassing," Rachel said, but things got worse when Alec also refused her rose. Jordan H, Ethan, and Tyler, on the other hand, agreed.

"This was supposed to be us taking the power back. We literally handed it right back to all of them by doing this. I can’t. Now I look stupid to everyone that has my rose," Rachel shared with Gabby, before revealing in a confessional, "It was the hardest moment I’ve had as the Bachelorette. Truly... To be rejected again multiple times after you already feel like you don’t deserve it is hard." But James, dubbed "Meatball," became the third man to decline Rachel, stating, “I’m here for Gabby. I have to go with my heart.”

Meanwhile, Michael, Quincey, Kirk, Mario, Jason, Spencer, Johnny, and Nate accepted Gabby's roses. Hayden received Rachel's final rose of the evening. Rachel felt "so bad and rejected" following the ceremony, although Gabby was overjoyed.

Viewers at home couldn't help but feel the second hand embarrassment for Rachel and criticize the rose ceremony. A fan labeled the rose ceremony the "cringiest" on Bachelor history: "This rose ceremony will definitely go down in history as the cringiest in Bachelorette history #TheBachelorette #bachelorette." Fans also call out the makers of the show for coming up with new rules on the go: "The producers explaining the arbitrary rules of the rose ceremony on the fly #bachelorette #TheBachelorette."

One of the fans wrote how this embarrassment could have been avoided: "How this would have worked out better, and allowed Gabby/Rachel's to have control: The men musy first choose which rose ceremony they will attend, Gabby or Rachel. Then, Gabby and Rachel have roses to hand out to the men in their room. #TheBachelorette." Watching the ladies feel invalidated, a fan expressed their anger in a tweet: "JUST A QUICK TWEET TO SAY I HATED THIS ROSE CEREMONY BUHBYE. I do not want my ladies feeling invalidated. ABC, check yourself. #TheBachelorette."

Comparing how the two Bachelorettes had their own embarrassing moment, a fan wrote: "Im dead serious, i think someone wanted Rachel to endure that same embarrassment of being rejected, but at the rose ceremony in public, completely uncalled for! #TheBachelorette #BachelorNation #BachelorMonday #bachelorette."

A fan felt taking away Rachel's rose was not in the best interest: "Re: #TheBachelorette tonight Wtf the host shouldn't be taking the Bachelorette's roses away.... this could've been avoided if they let the men declare their intentions before the rose ceremony." After already having a canceled rose ceremony this season, a fan questioned: "Is this the rose ceremony from hell part 2? #TheBachelorette."
