Tom Ellis lied to fans about his cameo on 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' and they love him for it

In a surprise twist worthy of an actor playing the Devil, Tom Ellis' reports that he would not be making a cameo on The CW crossover turned out to be false.

Spoiler alert for Part 3 of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

With the sheer volume of cameos announced in the run-up to 'Crisis on Infinite Earths,' it's hard to imagine that there were any surprises left up The CW's sleeve, at least as far as guest appearances were concerned. But thanks to the devilish deceptions of 'Lucifer' star Tom Ellis, a surprise is just what we got, as John Constantine's (Matt Ryan) shortcut to purgatory turns out to be none other than the Prince of Darkness himself. 

We find Lucifer, appropriately enough, on Earth-666, each of his arms around a woman as he leaves his club. He's needed to transport a team to Purgatory, where Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) soul resides. Even with the mention of Earth-666, the appearance of Lucifer was a complete surprise to many, as Tom Ellis said he would not be appearing on 'Crisis on Infinite Earths.'

The fans don't mind the deception, and it, in fact, seems to have made the cameo all the more fun. "YALL TOM ELLIS LIED WTF!!!!LUCIFER MADE A CAMEO!!!!" exulted a fan on Twitter, with another tweeting, "LUCIFER CAME TO #CrisisOnInfiniteEarths I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. THEY ACTUALLY DID IT. TOM ELLIS WAS LYING HAHA."

Fans seem to be appreciating the lie, the falsehood only endearing Tom Ellis to them even more. "Tom ellis outright lying about not being on #CrisisOnInfiniteEarths as lucifer but then showing up for a 2-minute scene just shows how damn good of an actor he is," said a fan

Though he's now been a part of The CW for a while on 'Legends of Tomorrow', John Constantine is also someone who's technically crossed over, as the character was imported from his own canceled series. Fans have been waiting for a crossover between the two characters for years, with one tweeting, "I have waited five years for a scene with Constantine and Lucifer, mostly in vain hope it would ever happen. And then, out of nowhere, like a holiday miracle, it occurred one random, cold, winter's night."

Only someone with the charm of Tom Ellis could make the world delighted at being lied to. 'Lucifer' has done it again. 

The next episode of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' will be on 'Arrow,' airing January 14 on The CW.
