Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly recreate iconic 'Top Gun' motorcycle scene for the sequel
Dressed in the signature bomber jacket with his aviators in place, Cruise and Connelly looked super at ease on a black Kawasaki Ninja H2 in 'Top Gun: Maverick'.
There's still some time for 'Top Gun: Maverick' to hit screens, but that doesn't mean we have to keep ourselves from being excited about the film right away. The sequel to the original is currently still being shot in Los Angeles and recently Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly sent some hearts racing when they recreated the iconic bike scene from the 1986 'Top Gun.' Dressed in the signature bomber jacket with his aviators in place, Cruise and Connelly looked super at ease on a black Kawasaki Ninja H2, which is Maverick's bike in the film.
After a ride together, where they both look loved up - Connelly plays Cruise's love interest in the sequel - she kisses him on the cheek as the cameras rolled. Soon after, the shot took a more passionate turn and Connelly planted a smooch on Cruise's lips as she got off his ride. Although not known to be the most passenger-friendly motorcycles, the Ninja H2 did not seem to deter the spirit of Maverick who really just wanted a ride with his flame. The motorcycle is, however, known to be incredibly fast. Hopefully, we will see what it can do in the film.
56-year-old Cruise looked very youthful and fit and in top shape to be playing Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell. Unlike the original scene, this one seems to have made some changes. For starters, the brown fur trim is gone and so is the brown leather jacket. Still a bomber though, this time in khaki. Maverick has also seemed to have been upgraded to Captain, as it said on the nametag on his jacket. It's been 32 years since the original released and look how nostalgic it still makes fans!
47-year-old Connelly too looked very happy on the sets of the film. She's replaced Kelly McGillis for the female lead in the film this time. McGillis played Charlie in the original 'Top Gun'. Dressed in casuals, she looked super stoked as she clung on to Cruise for the cameras.
The original film was directed by Tony Scott and he was initially going to be in charge of the sequel. However, after his tragic suicide in 2012, the director of 'TRON: Legacy' was brought on. The sequel is directed by Joseph Kosinski and stars Cruise, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris among others. It will be released on June 26, 2020 by Paramount Pictures. Along with Cruise's character, Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, the flight instructor protagonist Teller will play the character of Bradley Bradshaw, a pilot trainee, and the son of Maverick's late partner Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw. Kilmer is also making a comeback in the sequel as Commander Tom Iceman Kazansky.
