'Tiger King' star John Finlay would like Channing Tatum or Shia LeBeouf to play him in the movie
It is little surprise that Netflix's thrilling documentary 'Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness' has been trending ever since its release on March 20, 2020. With people confined to their homes due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Netflix audience has been binging on the controversial docuseries.
The 7-episode documentary, which follows Joe Exotic, a "mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country-western singer" who is now serving a 22-year prison sentence for his role in a murder-for-hire plot, is a hit among audiences.
Now, with all that free time on their hands, fans of the show are now trying to make casting choices for the real-life eccentric characters of 'Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness'. The latest idea comes from none other than the very first husband of Joe Exotic, John Finlay.
Apparently, the young man has shortlisted a handful of actors who he thinks can portray his character in real-life for the screen best. And, in the order of preference, Channing Tatum and Shia LaBeouf have made the cut. Talking about Tatum, Finlay said, "He's always had a special place in my heart."
There is a reason why Finlay is so attached to Tatum. He recounts when his distant cousin was dying from cancer, Tatum went out of his way to do what he could. "He did a shoutout to my distant cousin; she died of stage-four brain cancer. When he did his shoutout, he did it because it was on her bucket list."
His relative had requested a kiss from the actor, who fulfilled that wish in a personalised video message. "He has a special place in my heart because of that," the Oklahoman ex-meth addict said. But that is not it. Giving credit where it is due, Finlay says that it is also because of Tatum's acting chops that he would like to be played by him. "He's [also] a really good actor, and a lot of people are putting names out there with him in it."
Now if Tatum has his hands full with other projects, Finlay has also thought of a backup with prepared with Shia LaBeouf. "He would probably be a good choice because with a beard he can look like me, and he can relate to me."
It was earlier reported that Hulu was going to make a limited series based on 'Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness' starring Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin, Joe's arch enemy.
Finlay is not the only one weaving big dreams. Joe Exotic, who is currently in prison, has revealed who he has in mind to play this own eccentric character - Brad Pitt or David Spade, filmmakers Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin revealed. "He would like Brad Pitt or David Spade to play him," Rebecca revealed. "He doesn't refer to David Spade as David Spade - he refers to him as 'Joe Dirt' ."
'Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness' is currently streaming on Netflix.
