'The Pitt' continues to be a global phenomenon during its second season. The fanfare is so massive that one of the most trending Google searches currently is “how many episodes in 'The Pitt' season 2?″ The topic heated up after the 12th episode dropped on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET on HBO Max. This intrigue could be a result of most streaming shows having ten to twelve episodes. Official sources suggest that the finale is just a few weeks away. The show will apparently end with 15 episodes, just like its first season. The 15-episode order has apparently made it stand apart from streaming shows. “Doing just 12 episodes felt like an extension of a streaming show,” HBO's CEO Casey Bloys shared. “We used to do 12 episodes at HBO when I first got there. It kind of shrank to 10 and then, more recently, eight.”
The team also did not want to do 22 episodes like a network show. 15 felt like the right number, as it was more than what a streaming show offered, but also did not hamper the showrunners' creativity. Initially, the show was conceived as a 12-episode project, mirroring the typical 12-hour shifts in an ER, as per TVLine. After it was picked up by HBO Max, creator R. Scott Gemmill was asked to extend the run to 15 episodes. Bloys explained that the extended order provided several advantages to both HBO Max and the viewers. "We specifically wanted a show that could go for 15 episodes each season because that's 15 weeks of engagement for us," he said.
The larger number of episodes combined with lower budgets than other HBO Max shows like 'House of the Dragon,' 'The White Lotus,' and 'The Last of Us,' also paves the way for it to have less of a gap between two seasons. "This model of more episodes cuts down on the gap between seasons. On the platform, we have shows like 'House of the Dragon,' 'The Last of Us,' and 'White Lotus,' which, because of how they're made, can take two years to make. What I love about something like 'The Pitt' is, I can get 15 episodes in a year... and I'd like to do more shows in this model," Bloys shared.
The finale titled “9:00 P.M.” will air on April 16. Besides that, episode 13 titled “7:00 P.M.” will air on April 2, and episode 14 titled “8:00 P.M.” will air on April 9. All episodes of the show are added to the streaming service on Thursday nights at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT. PEOPLE shared that 'The Pitt' was renewed for a third season ahead of its second season premiere. The renewal was possibly a consequence of its strong performance during its first season, which took the awards season by storm.
