'Grey's Anatomy' Season 22 episode 16 teaser leaves huge question about Owen Hunt's mother
Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd are two pillars of 'Grey's Anatomy' and have long been associated with the medical drama show. The ongoing Season 22 marks a watershed moment in the show's history, as it has already been confirmed that both Raver and McKidd will be exiting following the season finale, which airs on Thursday, May 7. Although it might be hard to imagine a Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital without Raver's Teddy Altman and McKidd's Owen Hunt, we must reconcile ourselves with their impending departure. Nevertheless, the way the fan-favourite characters are written out of the show makes all the difference, and a recently released teaser for episode 16 presented an ominous clue.
The teaser depicted Hunt's mother, Evelyn, played by Debra Mooney, being wheeled into the emergency room under a shock code. Caterina Scorsone's Amelia Shepherd receives her and eventually confesses to Altman in the scrub room, "I can’t operate. If something happens, he’ll never forgive me." This snippet of dialogue is enough to suggest that the stroke is quite severe and might call for brain surgery. Questions keep mounting in the aftermath of the teaser. Would Hunt's mother survive? Would Hunt be prompted to leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital behind as a consequence?
It was previously revealed that Hunt was eyeing a position at a rural hospital, but had eventually turned it down. He was deeply affected by his father's death in the past and had frequent PTSD episodes as a result. If Evelyn were to succumb to her stroke, it would certainly wreak havoc on Hunt's psyche. Nevertheless, we must wait for the rest of the story to unfold in the upcoming episode, which is titled 'Feel It Still' and airs on April 2. The episode will also feature the return of Jo Wilson following her heart surgery and a C-section. Miranda Bailey, on her part, will have to decide what to do with Benson Kwan, as the latter had injected a patient with an experimental drug.
Elsewhere, McKidd expressed his gratitude at having the privilege to work on 'Grey's Anatomy' both as an actor and as a director. In a recently released statement, he remarked, "Grey’s Anatomy has been a huge chapter of my life, creatively and personally, and I’m deeply grateful for everything the show has given me over the years. As that chapter comes to a close, I’m looking forward to what’s ahead — building new work, telling new stories, and taking everything I’ve learned into the next phase of my career." He continued, "Playing Dr. Owen Hunt and directing on the show have both shaped me enormously, and I’ve had the privilege of working with an extraordinary group of people throughout that time. I’m particularly thankful to Shonda Rhimes for creating Owen, and for the encouragement she gave me as I stepped into directing."
