When does 'The Winchesters' release?
The first season of 'The Winchesters' will arrive in the fall of 2022. The series will air on Tuesdays at 8 pm exclusively on CW and Netflix.
What is 'The Winchesters' all about?
A long-time 'Supernatural' fan would probably have an idea of the Winchester family from the parent show. They have been portrayed as humanity’s last line of defense, the ones who keep the balance between good and evil in check. They are mere mortals who regularly tussle with demonic and sometimes godly entities.
The series revolves around John Winchester and Mary Campbell who are the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester from 'Supernatural'. The trailer shows a young John, played by Drake Rodger, returning from the Vietnam War, perplexed about his life’s purpose and the mystery surrounding his father’s mysterious disappearance. His chance meeting with Mary Campbell, portrayed by Meg Donnelly, changes his perception of the known world as he comically tries to "help" her in a fight with a demon.
Mary has her own issues to deal with as she is reconsidering her job as a hunter after the death of a close friend. However, she is pulled back into her role as her own father goes missing. The "missing dad" phenomenon brings the two protagonists together, something that also forced Sam and Dean to work together at the beginning of 'Supernatural'. The storyline is super cool and a must-watch for all of you who are fans of demons and angels sort of story.
Who stars in 'The Winchesters'?
The series stars Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly as John Winchester and Mary Campbell, respectively. The rest of the cast includes JoJo Fleites as Carlos Cervantez, Demetria McKinney as Ada Monroe, and Nida Khurshid as Latika Desai. Jensen Ackles also returns to narrate the series as Dean and will serve as executive producer alongside his wife Danneel Ackles.
What's the latest news about 'The Winchesters'?
We now know actors that Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly will be playing John and Mary in the upcoming 'Supernatural' prequel and the actors are taking this responsibility quite seriously. In a recent interview with TVline, Drake Rodger called it to be an honor to be playing the part, stating, "It’s an honor, It also comes with its territory. We’ve got to take it real serious. We owe a lot to the fans, so we’ve got to be there and we’ve got to represent."
The 'Supernatural' prequel is described as the “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world.” Fans of the mothership series, of course, have already been told some tales about John and Mary’s early days, but “we’re going to give it to you in a cool way that you don’t quite expect,” Rodger says, adding that the pair’s first encounter is “a supernatural meet-cute.”
Who are the creators?
'The Winchesters' has been created by Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel. Having closely followed the lore of 'Supernatural' themselves, the couple is bringing the story of Sam and Dean’s mom and dad to the screens, with the blessings of the original creator of 'Supernatural' Eric Kripke, who is currently busy with 'The Boys'. While Ackles reprises his role as Dean and functions as the narrator for the series, both of them serve as executive producers alongside writer Robbie Thompson (Supernatural) and Glen Winter, the latter of whom directed 'The Winchesters’ pilot episode.
