Opening on a thrilling note we see a battle take place during which a pregnant Aiel soldier gets fatally injured as she goes into labor with an enemy soldier pointing his sword at her belly. The story then continues where it left off with the group worrying about Mat Cauthon (Barney Harri) being left behind, but there's no time to waste as the Ways are deadly and treacherous. The show explores more of the wonders in this fantastical world as the Ways and Machin Shin, a magical dark force strike the group before they escape. We also see a return to a place familiar to Moiraine and Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney) as we dive into their past here.

The seventh episode highlights some of Moiraine's old travels with the city of Fal Dara having a connection to Lan. Love and relationships are brought into focus as Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) and Egwene al'Vere (Madeleine Madden)  reaffirm their love for each other, but it turns out that Perrin has always pined for her as well causing friction between the two men. Lan and Nynaeve finally share a night of passion as well after all the flirting we saw in previous episodes. Lan whose life before a Warder has been a mystery is revealed to be the son of a ruler whose kingdom was lost to the Blight.

Revelations play a big part as the pages of the story unfurl. Rand is revealed to be the child of the pregnant Aiel and the soldier his (adoptive)father. All of us who have been waiting for the big reveal of the prophesied being can celebrate as it's confirmed to be Rand himself! The lead-up to the revelation was magnificent as the young man pieces together the puzzle himself.

The penultimate episode of the season was the perfect balance of storytelling and action which made for a captivating watch. New relationships, secrets, and stories were uncovered as the season gradually comes to a close. The episode also had more of its incredible VFX which was a treat that was delightful. Moiraine and the Dragon Reborn are off on a perilous journey to the Eye of the World to confront the Dark One with the final episode looking to be the best. An incredibly satisfying episode we absolutely can't wait to see what the finale has in store.

‘The Wheel of Time’ returns to Amazon Prime Video with a new episode every Friday.
