Spoilers for 'The Wheel of Time' Episode 4 - 'The Dragon Reborn'
Amazon Prime Video's ambitious new series 'The Wheel of Time' just came out with the fourth episode and it absolutely did not disappoint. The fantasy show which is based on the books of the same name has a brilliant cast who along with the incredible production value make for a stunning watch.
The first three episodes of the show marked the series premiere which had a strong start right off the bat with audiences wishing that they didn't have to wait a week for a new episode. So far danger and magic have been a constant as Morraine takes on a daunting journey to reach the White Tower in her mission to deliver the potential Dragon Reborn. Read on to know what happened in the fourth episode and what we thought of it.
Episode 4 opens on a thrilling note as we are given a taste of Logain Ablar (Alvaro Morte), a mystical man who wields the One Power as he easily overthrows an army with his skills. A mysterious woman's voice keeps whispering to him as we see his signs of him being corrupted due to wielding the One Power. It's as clear as day that he is a formidable man with the episode having a strong start. Logain though in the present is being held captive by the Aes Sedai who admits that he is giving them a hard time. Moraine who gets healed by one of them clearly sees the strain the man is having on them as her healer shows signs of stress.
Egwene (Madeleine Madden) and Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) still remain separated from Rand (Josha Stradowski) and Mat (Barney Harris), traveling along with the Tuatha'an. Meanwhile, Mat and Rand alongside Thom (Alexandre Willaume) the gleeman reach a barn where they rest for the night. Mat's clearly not well as Rand worries about him. The night sees Mat infected by the Darkness which leaves him in a trance and possibly the killer of the family whose barn they were using. A fade appears but Thom holds it off while the duo makes their escape. Mat's character is set up to be quite interesting with definite repercussions to follow. He may even be channeling the One Power which could potentially corrupt and ruin his mind and we look forward to seeing where the journey takes him.
The highlight of the episode was Alvaro Morte as Logain, who throws away the mantle of the Profesor in 'Money Heist', stuns as the mysterious, sly, and powerful man who claims to be the Dragon Reborn. His character is certainly a threat as even the powerful Aes Sedai get momentarily overthrown with a sister even being killed in the process. They too don't know the limit of his power but Morraine doesn't believe him to be a potential candidate even though circumstances say otherwise. The latest episode also encapsulated more details from the books, giving us a look into the mysterious Aes Sedai, their ranks, and loyal warders. Nynaeve's character surprised us when she suddenly channels the One Power with the surge being extremely powerful and healing all those in her vicinity. Logain whose power gets taken away from him may not be the Dragon Reborn after all as a potential new candidate may have shown herself. Is Nynaeve one of the chosen five or is her power as a Wisdom of a notable strength? Only the next episode will tell.
Episode 4 of 'The Wheel of Time' was extremely satisfying with Logain taking center stage. New threats and revelations have us looking forward to the next one, with danger across the horizon and enemies fast approaching.
'The Wheel of Time' is streaming on Amazon Prime Video with new episodes dropping each week.
