The episode kicks off with a surprising twist as Father Gabriel (played by Seth Gilliam) makes a crossover appearance in the spin-off.

Interwoven throughout the episode are flashbacks to annual gatherings in the forest between Jadis and her former lover Gabriel.

Three years ago, she grappled with guilt over her past actions and the future consequences. Feeling the weight of mistrust from Alexandria's residents, Jadis questioned her decisions.

Two years ago, Gabriel asked Jadis and her community to help Alexandria where food was scarce and children were dying of hunger. Jadis hesitated to offer assistance, acknowledging that she does "difficult" and "cruel" things.

Anne/Jadis emphasizes the importance of secrecy, warning that if anyone learns about their meetings in the woods, both their lives would be at risk.

She hints that she is "up to something" and despite Gabriel's persistent inquiries about her community (CRM), Anne refuses to divulge any details.

Instead, she focuses on expressing her remorse and newfound responsibilities within her current community.

She subtly probes Gabriel about coping with the guilt of killing people, indirectly alluding to her own remorse for those innocents she sacrificed for CRM.

This moment reveals her inner conflict regarding CRM's strict rules and its treatment of its own members.

Although Gabriel realizes he won't sway Anne to leave CRM, he allows her to be vulnerable. He even gifts her the ring he intended for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) to give to Michonne (Danai Gurira), symbolizing faith during her moments of doubt.

During their next meeting, Anne regrets being vulnerable and fears Gabriel becoming a "loose end." She even resorts to holding him at gunpoint but finds herself unable to pull the trigger, showcasing her internal conflict and lingering emotions toward Gabriel.

This year, Gabriel once again arrives at "same place, same day" to meet Jadis but finds himself being stood up. This is because Jadis meets a tragic end while pursuing Rick and Michonne.

Meanwhile, Gabriel would probably never know why Jadis never returned for their annual meeting.
