'The Voice' Season 18: Jacob Daniel Murphy shows stunning jazzy vocals can come from where you least expect it
Jumping right into our next contestant in the blind auditions, we meet Jacob Daniel Murphy. And right off the bat, it's obvious he's not what he seems.
The young singer gives us some amazing jazz and blues vibes, hitting some stunning high notes and acing the runs at the end of his performance. But despite his stellar vocals and amazing control, not one chair seems to turn. And then, right at the last second, Blake Shelton hits his button.
Once the audition finishes and all coaches turn though, they all regret their choice to not hit their buttons. They didn't expect to see the tiny 27-year-old singer from California and it's obvious his voice sounded like someone else entirely to the coaches. Blake says back in Oklahama, that's called "screwing the pooch" to which Nick Jonas responds saying they don't say that on 'The Voice'. Perhaps Nick is still traumatized from Blake's previous attempt to steal a contestant from Nick by using a puppy.
Fellow coach John Legend said he's excited for Murphy to be on the show and work with Blake: "The quality of your voice is exceptional."
Blake says, "I'm havin' the best day right now," referring to his second time being the only coach to turn for a contestant with an amazing voice. He also jokes that he went backstage and mixed his 'drink', and heard Murphy singing and thought he didn't stand a chance of winning him for Team Blake. But then he looked over and saw not a single chair turned, and he hit that button right away. And what a good choice too, because Murphy clearly has the skills and with the right coach mentoring him, it's going to be phenomenal.
And so, Blake bags yet another talented contestant tonight.
