Spoilers for ‘The Stand’ Episode 2 ‘Pocket Savior’

Episode 2 of the CBS All Access limited series, ‘The Stand’, based on Stephen King's 1978 novel of the same name, focused on the lives of Larry Underwood (Jovan Adepo) and Lloyd Henreid (Nat Wolff). Mirroring the Covid-19 curse, ‘The Stand’ depicts a mystical and apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague — dubbed “Captain Trips”, which kills almost the entire world population, leaving only a handful of survivors.

While the first episode left us wondering about the visions experienced by three people and about Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg), this one is focusing on Larry's love story with Rita Blakemoor (Heather Graham) and Lloyd's life behind the bars after a robbery-gone-wrong. Larry meets his mother as she suffers from the after-effects of contracting the virus and dies. Reeling from the shock, he crosses paths with a middle-aged Manhattan socialite and strikes a friendship that soon blossoms into romance. As they try to flee, Larry discovers that Rita (Heather Graham) is addicted to pills and has several bursts of mood swings. Overwhelmed by the horrors she's witnessed and the perceived futility of her continued survival, Rita pops more pills, and soon, she fatally overdoses as Larry sleeps.

This, of course, was in flashback. In the show’s present, we see Larry lead a small convoy of cars to Boulder, Colorado, including a teacher named Nadine Cross (Amber Heard) and an orphaned child named Joe (Gordon Cormier), who is supposedly on the autism spectrum.

On the other side of the country, a low-life criminal called Lloyd is jailed for a botched robbery at a convenience store that led to the deaths of his trigger-happy boss, an innocent young woman, and a police officer. It soon becomes clear that the contagion is spreading into the penitentiary, with guards and inmates becoming visibly sick. Lloyd ends up as the only person left alive in the prison, and he is driven to eating rats and taking bites out of his cellmate's leg until Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård) arrives. Flagg promises to free Lloyd on the condition that he pledges his fealty and becomes his right-hand man. And the latter agrees readily.

So, when does the next episode of ‘The Stand’ air?

With most of the main characters introduced now, Episode 3 of ‘The Stand’ will likely see the two sides gearing up for a post-apocalyptic battle. On one side, obviously, will be Mother Abagail. She represents good. And on the other side will be Flagg and those he has collected, like Lloyd. They represent evil.

‘The Stand’ premiered on December 17, 2020, with the first episode titled ‘The End’ and subsequent episodes in the nine-episode limited-event series will follow every Thursday on CBS All Access. The episodes drop on the streaming site on the day of their scheduled release. The drop time is at midnight PT / 1 am MT / 2 am CT / 3 am ET. However, there's no set time to tune in. You can watch it whenever you want after its premiere on the streaming service.

‘The Stand’ episode 3, ‘Blank Pages’, written by Jill Killington & Owen King, will release on December 31, 2020, only on CBS All Access.
