'Crisis on Infinite Earths': The Spectre makes its appearance and its new chosen avatar thrills fans

Fans celebrate the addition of the Spectre, who will be playing a larger part in the events to come.

Spoiler alert for Part 3 of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

After a long, arduous journey across the Multiverse for Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) soul, it turns out that Oliver wasn't meant to return to life. He is meant for much greater things, gaining all the power of the right hand of God as the Spectre, the Spirit of Vengeance.

It had already been announced that the Spectre would be appearing on 'Crisis on Infinite Earths,' but after the death of Oliver Queen in Part 1 of the Crisis, the internet was filled with speculators tweeting about Oliver's return as the Spectre. Those speculations have been confirmed last episode, as the former host for the Spectre, Jim Corrigan (Stephen Lobo), confirms that it's time for Oliver Queen host the powerful spirit. John Diggle (David Ramsey) had just managed to convince Oliver's soul to calm down and return to Oliver's raging, Lazarus-Pit-resurrected body when Jim Corrigan stepped out and convinced Oliver that he was meant for a higher purpose.

Many fans are more than excited for this huge step up for the character, with one tweeting, "Oliver Queen just went from being a vigilante to basically a god. I’m fine with that." Not everyone is as well-versed in comics lore, however, and the Spectre's first appearance in the Arrowverse has some scratching their heads. "WHAT IS A SPECTER AND WHY IS OLIVER IT" one confused fan enquires. One fan comments on just how far Oliver has come, "Oliver Queen at the beginning and at the end of the decade," sharing images of Oliver as a vigilante vs an image of the Spectre.

Some fans feel that becoming the Spectre is the perfect next step for Oliver Queen. "No one has a stronger sense of justice than Oliver Queen and that makes him perfect for Spectre," notes a tweet

The next episode of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' airs on 'Arrow' January 14, on The CW.
