Release Date
'The Real World Homecoming: New York' is being released as part of MTV's 40th birthday celebrations. MTV was home to the original series which has been credited as the inventor of reality series and the network had decided to go full circle by releasing 'TRWH: New York'. The six-episode series will be available for streaming starting Thursday, March 4, 2021.
Plot
The docuseries will see the original cast members who were then complete strangers when they appeared in the original show in 1992 reuniting in the iconic NYC loft that became as famous as the show itself. Together they will revisit the shocking moments and explosive issues that transpired during the historic season and discuss how they find a parallel in today's social climate.
The show was celebrated for its assorted cast and realistic depiction of contemporary young adulthood. It represented an unadorned yet compelling idea of uniting people from broadly variant experiences and backgrounds coming together to find mutual acceptance on the issues that separated them.
Cast
The seven strangers from Season 1 of the show, Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies, and Kevin Powell are back to shoot 'The Real World Homecoming: New York'.
Creators
The original show was created for MTV by Jonathan Murray and the late Mary-Ellis Bunim of Bunim/Murray Productions. For the rebranded version, Sitarah Pendelton-Eaglin, Candida Boyette-Clemons, and Nadim Amiry are executive producers for MTV Entertainment Studios. Jonathan Murray, Julie Pizzi, Erica Ross, Kevin Lee, and Trish Gold are executive producers for Bunim/Murray Productions. Jacob Lane is the co-executive producer and George Verschoor is the consulting producer, according to a press release.
Trailer
Viewers who tuned in to Season 1 of the show, prepare to feel nostalgic. The trailer switches between 1992 and the current year and one can hear a castmate gushing over how the house still "looks and smells" the same. Kevin had accused Becky of racism in 1992 and they'll be seen going back and forth over the topic once again in the new season, according to the trailer. Also, watch out for Kevin's salt and pepper bed (read: bad) hair, unruly is one thing but this is something else.
Where to watch and how to live stream
The first installment of the six-episode docu-series will begin streaming on Thursday, March 4. It will be available on Paramount+, the rebranded version of CBS All Access, a subscription video-on-demand over-the-top streaming service.
