After being shown what exactly goes down throughout the rest of the year between two consecutive purges, we are finally greeted with elaborate preparations for the annual night of violence, hours leading up to the commencement siren. So far we have seen how morbid and cold-blooded the new America can be in the wake of an annual glorification of legalized crime including murder, but this episode 8 titled 'Before the Sirens' highlights just how invested the young populace of the society is in the system imposed upon by the New Founding Fathers. Neither outfit choices nor their parents can get in the way of some much-needed purging, or "release, through the healing power of violence."

The episode opens with three young girls picking out outfits for an event; the event is, of course, the soon to commence purge night of the year. The three girls sift through an extravagant closet to find the perfect outfit and somehow, the possible queen bee of the lot, finally decides on a tutu-looking tulle skirt to go with her leather harness with spikes just to give that extra Purge night edge. This after going through several clothing items - daring, exposing, risque and skimpy alike, so you can tell there's a lot of thought that goes into Purge night appearance. Sort of like a second Halloween, with fatal weapons and masks as a mandate.

Once the outfit decision is almost sorted, there is the issue of overbearing parents who can't fathom the idea of how indulgent their precious kids are in this violence. The same queen bee girl's father happens to interrupt their little makeover into violent goddesses and the menacing look he gets from his daughter - glaring at him with a weapon, asking him through gritted teeth to get out of her room, and the dad readily complying because he is equal parts shocked, and terrified at the monster his daughter is so unflinching about to become.

A sneak peek of the episode also shows how young adults of the same age are making a new trend go viral on social media, something they are calling 'purge confessionals.' The kids are basically dressed up and masked, announcing their eagerness to engage in the system, out in the open for the world to glorify or be scared of their pick. But the propaganda and conditioning have run so deep that it really is a matter of who went all out for Purge night and it's not just about the violence when it also boils down to just pure, raw, depraved violence.

'The Purge' season 2 airs on Tuesdays at 9pm only on USA Network.
