‘The Pitt’ showrunner reveals key recurring character's status in season 2

'The Pitt' Season 2 Episode 2 featured a new face. A change in the form of a new social worker at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center saw fans wonder what happened to Krystel V. McNeil's Kiara Alfaro. An update came in the form of the showrunner Scott R. Gemmill.

In the latest episode, Dr. Santos' (Isa Briones) patient, Kylie, a little girl with blood in the urine, bruises, and a serious chin injury, was in focus. The chapter also saw the need for a social worker, but replacing Alfaro was a new face. Per ScreenRant, the actress has not exited the show, and showrunner Gemmill clarified the absence, saying she works a different shift than what the new season covers.

Replacing Alfaro was Dylan Easton (Becca Blackwell). Not much is known about the new member in the mix, but fans believe that their bond with Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) suggests the character has been working at the PTMC long enough.

In related news, Gemmill also shed light on Dr. Robby's state of mind. "[In Season 2], we’re catching up with Robby and seeing what’s going on in his life," he told Deadline. "As you know, he had a sort of a come-to-Jesus moment in the first season, where he had a breakdown and had to face up to his own sort of demons and realize that he needs some help. He had not dealt with the stressors of COVID and the PTSD that followed. So this season, is he really doing the work he needs to do to get better? That’s a little bit questionable, which you can tell in the early episodes [of Season 2]."

Also on topic was Robby's relationship with Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball). The showrunner revealed that the ER staff had mixed views of his return. "[Langdon’s] certainly done the work he’s supposed to do. In this situation, some people are happy to see him back, and some people aren’t. Some people feel betrayed. He’s certainly doing everything he can to try to rectify the situation and make amends. But not everyone appreciates his return."

New episodes of 'The Pitt' Season 2 are released on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max
