'The Outpost' Season 3 Episode 2 Review: Humans find themselves at brink of war with Blackbloods in slow episode
Spoilers for 'The Outpost' Season 3 Episode 2 'The Peace You Promised'
In the latest episode of The CW's hit fantasy adventure series 'The Outpost', we see a land that cannot come to trust its new occupants and is at the brink of war. Like one of the characters mention in the episode, the Outpost is like fry grass, just a little spark is needed to blow it apart. As the Blackbloods keep their stronghold on the Outpost, the Queen's supporters are looking for a way to exact their timely revenge.
Picking up after the events of the previous episode, Garett Spears (Jake Stormoen) is sentenced to death for the killing of a Blackblood in the name of the Queen (Imogen Waterhouse). The entire outpost rises up in revolt in Yavalla (Jaye Griffiths) upholds the law above all and no one is really exempt from it. But how many times has 'The Outpost' brought death upon Garett and not seen it through? One too many times over the course of the last three seasons and by now, any development in the story along these lines feels redundant.
In between littered are scenes of romance between our two couples,Gwynn (Imogen Waterhouse) and Tobin (Aaron Fontaine), and Garret and Talon (Jessica Green). While this rarely adds to the narrative, this kind of fan service is imperative for a show like 'The Outpost', which is riddled with slow developments.
When was the last time that 'The Outpost' impressed you? This episode won't do anything to change that either. Although it brings new avenues to the characters' backstories and the overall history of the universe of the series, the episode moves at a slow pace and puts its focus on a lot of things. At the same time, it offers a depiction of land broken by the poor distribution of power and basic rights.
It was previously mentioned that it has been almost 40 days since the Outpost was taken over by the Blackbloods. Why then is there no update from the Prime Order? Following their deadly attack on the Outpost at the end of the previous season and their loss at the hands of the Blackbloods and the Lu Qiris by Talon fulfilling the prophecy. But little has been even spoken about them let alone shown. Is the Prime Order irrelevant now with the Blackbloods' annexation of the Outpost? Or is there a possibility that the human on both sides will one day reunite?
Yavalla has made countless promises to the humans about peace and paradise. But the current condition of the Outpost is far from it. Will the peace that is promised to them arrive?
'The Outpost' airs on The CW on Thursdays at 9/8c.
